Ryan to Introduce Military Sexual Assault Legislation
Thursday, May 09, 2013WASHINGTON -- U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan, D-Ohio 13, announced today that he will introduce in the House of Representatives the Combating Military Sexual Assault Act of 2013. The bill will address gaps within current law and policy, and build upon the steps recently taken by the Department of Defense and the individual services.
Ryan made his intentions known following a meeting today at the White House with Valerie Jarrett, senior assistant to the President Obama, and Tina Tchen, chief of staff to Michelle Obama.
Industry Group: Injection Wells 'Misunderstood'
Thursday, May 09, 2013WINDHAM, Ohio -- Representatives of the Ohio Oil And Gas Association, or OOGA, say that the fears and concerns associated with Class II injection wells across the state are unfounded. To prove their contention, they demonstrated for reporters just how routine the practice is.
"It's really underwhelming," said OOGA Vice President David Hill, who also owns three injection wells in Ohio and production operations in Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. "They're very misunderstood. It's easy to fear what you don't know."
Oak Hill Collaborative to Open South Side Incubator
Thursday, May 09, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- A South Side improvement organization plans to operate a small business incubator on a long-vacant building on Oak Hill Avenue, reports the group‘s director, former municipal judge Patrick Kerrigan.
The Oak Hill Collaborative will also locate offices in the building at 507 Oak Hill Ave. The incubator is set to open in about six weeks, following a nearly $200,000 renovation of the building, which had been owned by the former Forum Health Inc.
WRPA Lands $600K EPA Grant for Brownfields
Thursday, May 09, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- A $600,000 brownfield assessment grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will allow the Western Reserve Port Authority to move forward on a brownfield inventory and related activities. The port authority, which encompasses Mahoning and Trumbull counties, received notice Wednesday of the grant award, one of only four in Ohio awarded by EPA this year.
Report Warns of Military Relying on Offshore Suppliers

COSE Finds NE Ohio Businesses More Optimistic
Thursday, May 09, 2013CLEVELAND -- Small-business owners in northeastern Ohio are more optimistic and see more opportunity ahead for growth than their counterparts elsewhere in Ohio and the nation, a new report has found.
Half of the northeastern Ohio companies expect growth this year compared with 43% nationwide.
That's one findings in the Council of Smaller Enterprises' quarterly Small Business Monitor survey that tracks trends, economic indicators and opinions of some of its 14,000-plus small-business members.

Eastern Gateway Valley Center Offers Tours Saturday

Prospective students, interested family members and friends may tour the structure on East Federal Street and its classrooms and computer labs and offices of admissions, financial aid and advisers plus the bookstore.
The free events are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and 5 to 8 p.m. next Monday and May 20.
