Ohio State's Meyer to Address United Way Fundraiser
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Urban Meyer, head football coach at The Ohio State University, will be the keynote speaker for United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley's 8th annual Champions Among Us dinner June 17. The event, sponsored by PNC Bank and presented by Covelli Enterprises, will take place at the Covelli Centre here.
In his first year at Ohio State, Meyer led the Buckeyes to a perfect 12-0 season.
“I look forward to coming to Youngstown and talking to the passionate football fans of the Mahoning Valley," Meyer said in a prepared statement. "This is a huge recruiting base for us, and I know all about the tradition and great high school football played in the Mahoning Valley. Also, I look forward to supporting such a great organization like United Way, which helps so many in need.”
Joining Meyer will be former Boardman star and current Cleveland Brown John Greco. The United Way will honor three local athletes: Kurt Hess, YSU quarterback; Luke Wollet, former Poland stand-out now a safety at Kent State University; and Ashley Cuba, former Cardinal Mooney soccer star now at the University of Pittsburgh.
Sarah Turner, a 20-year-old country singer from Boardman, will perform. Turner recently released a six-song CD and has been living in Nashville.
Doors open at 5:15 p.m. for a silent/Chinese auction and cash bar. Dinner will be served at 6:15 p.m. followed by the program and live auction. At 5:30 there will also be a V.I.P. meet-and-greet reception with Meyer, underwritten by Compco Industries, for key sponsors.
Champions Among Us is the largest fundraiser of the year for United Way. Table sponsorship opportunities are available for $800 and include reserved seating for eight. Individual tickets are $100 each.
To purchase tickets, call the United Way office at 330 746 8494 or visit this website.
