Youngstown Picks YNDC for Planning Contract
Friday, July 19, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corp. will take over citywide planning functions for Youngstown under an agreement approved Thursday by the Board of Control.
YNDC, which was launched in 2009 to promote and build on strategic investments in the city’s neighborhoods, was selected from the two finalists among the four entities that responded to the city’s request for proposals.

3 More Wells Approved for Columbiana County
Thursday, July 18, 2013COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Ohio Department of Natural Resources has issued three new horizontal wells targeting the Utica and Point Pleasant shale formations in Columbiana County, records show.
Chesapeake Exploration LLC was issued two new permits for the Frank Zehentbauer and Judy Brown farms in Hanover Township, while a third was approved for the McKarns property in Wayne Township.
ODNR data show there are now 80 horizontal well permits in Columbiana County. Of the 41 wells drilled in the county since 2011, seven are listed as producing.
VEC Wants to Start Soon on Evets' Expansion Project
Thursday, July 18, 2013WARREN, Ohio -- Construction of VEC/Evets Electrical Inc.’s planned expansion at its Erie Street plant in Hubbard could be under way as soon as next week. VEC is waiting for final approvals from its lenders and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency before moving forward on its proposed 27,000-square-foot expansion to the former Powell Industries building, said Rex A. Ferry, CEO and chairman of VEC Inc.
VEC purchased the building about a year ago. Its Evets division operates a a fabrication shop there.

SRU Taking Applications for New MBA Program

Classes begin in January at the Regional Learning Alliance in Cranberry Township and applications are being accepted.
The Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education Board of Governors approved the program, offered through SRU’s School of Business, earlier this month.
Canfield Metal Coating Sold to Texas Equity Firm
Thursday, July 18, 2013CANFIELD, Ohio -- Insight Equity Holdings LLC , a private equity firm based in Texas, reports one of its portfolio companies, New Star Metals Inc. of Burr Ridge, Ill., has acquired “substantially all the assets” of Canfield Metal Coating Corp. at 460 W. Main St.
As part of the transaction, New Star has renamed the division Canfield Coating LLC.
Canfield Coating provides galvanized and painted steel coils to a variety of companies in the packaging, automotive and construction industries.
