Sharon Regional Names Smith Chief Quality Officer
Friday, December 14, 2012SHARON, Pa. -- Sharon Regional Health System has named Amy Smith its chief quality officer. She has direct responsibility for patient safety, service quality, organizational performance improvement, medical staff performance improvement, and clinical standards and practices.
Smith comes to Sharon Regional from ValleyCare Health System in Youngstown (formerly Forum Health), where she served as vice president of care management, market director of case management and director of case management/utilization management. Before that, she worked for Sharon Regional in several posts.
Akron Children’s to Operate Pediatric at East Liverpool
Tuesday, December 11, 2012BOARDMAN, Ohio -- Akron Children’s Hospital and East Liverpool City Hospital have signed an agreement that has the former operating the pediatric unit at the latter. According to the plan, Akron Children’s will operate the 15-bed unit in space leased from East Liverpool City Hospital beginning in January.
“We recognize the need to bring Akron Children’s pediatric expertise closer to where our families live, said Bill Considine, president and CEO of Akron Children’s Hospital. “We’re happy to add East Liverpool as a valued partner to our more than 80 service locations.”
Boardman Doctor’s Fraud Conviction Second in Family
Tuesday, December 11, 2012COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A Boardman Township doctor is the second in his family to be convicted of Workers’ Compensation fraud and banned from treating injured workers employed in Ohio. Dr. David Esarco pleaded guilty to Workers’ Compensation fraud for improper billing practices a year after his brother, Dr. John Esarco, was in court for similar offenses.
Sharon Regional Hospital Reports More ER Visits
Thursday, December 06, 2012SHARON, Pa. -- Sharon Regional Health System recorded a 15.7% increase in emergency department visits during its fiscal year, thanks to a new model of care delivery within its Emergency Care Center known as PhysicianFirst. The program places the emergency room physician at the beginning of the emergency care treatment process.
Ohio Workers' Comp Expands Safety Training Options
Monday, December 03, 2012COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Directors of the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation have given employers participating in the Group Experience and Group Retrospective Rating programs more options to improve workplace safety. The change allows employers who have had a workplace injury to satisfy some safety training requirements by completing an accident analysis and related safety training.
