Appeals Court Rejects FCC's Media Ownership Rules
Thursday, June 24, 2004WASHINGTON -- The Federal Communications Commission and the nation's largest media companies Thursday were dealt a huge setback by a federal appeals court that ordered the regulatory agency to review its new ownership rules and better justify the basis upon which ownership limits were relaxed.The ruling, a split decision, was handed down by the U.S. Third Circuit Court of Appeals in Philadelphia. It blocks implementation of rules the FCC approved last June that touched off a firestorm of opposition that united pressure groups across the political spectrum.

Junior Achievement Gets Funding for After-School Program

Trumbull Gets Funding for Hubbard Study
Wednesday, June 23, 2004COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Trumbull County will receive a $15,000 grant to complete a comprehensive downtown planning study and develop a marketing plan and strategy for the city of Hubbard. The Ohio Department of Development's Office of Housing and Community Partnerships will administer the grants.The Trumbull County grant was one of two awards today announced by ODOD. In addition, the city of Chillicothe will receive a $200,000 grant to assist with the redevelopment of the fire-damaged Carlisle Building in its central business district.
Sales at Darden Restaurants Total $5 Billion for Fiscal 2004
Wednesday, June 23, 2004ORLANDO, Fla. -- Darden Restaurants Inc. reports diluted net earnings per share of $1.36 on net earnings of $231.5 million for the fiscal year ended May 30. Earnings per share for the fourth quarter were 32 cents on net earnings of $53.7 million.Darden operates several Olive Garden and Red Lobster restaurants in the Mahoning Valley region and recently opened a Smokey Bones restaurant in Boardman.Full-year sales increased 7.5% to $5 billion.
