Ohio State President, Students Tour Schwebel‘s
Thursday, August 16, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Ohio State University students learned something Wednesday about of the bread they eat on campus.
On Ohio State’s Friend Raising Tour, they, OSU President Gordon Gee and mascot Brutus Buckeye stopped at Schwebel's bakery on Midlothian Boulevard.
The visit was part of Gee's annual tour to educate students about Ohio beyond Columbus. Schwebel's director of marketing, Lee Schwebel, led the tour during which he related the history of the family-owned business and showed how bread is made.
Applications Sought for Innovative Teacher Awards
Tuesday, August 14, 2012WARREN, Ohio -- The Eastern Ohio P-16 Partnership for Education and The Turning Foundation (Turning Technologies) are accepting applications for the third annual “Innovative Teacher of the Year” award.
The award honors creative teachers using “21st century teaching skills to enhance their students’ classroom experience,” the P-16 partnership says.
YSU to Offer Minor in Social Media Campaigns

The seemingly endless list of social media platforms, from Twitter to Facebook to LinkedIn and more, is difficult for many people to navigate, let alone know how to use effectively. This fall, Youngstown State University's communication Department of Communication will introduce a new minor course of study in social media campaigns.
The department, said chairman Adam Earnheardt, hopes to harness the energy and desire students have to understand these new communication platforms.
Eastern Gateway Prepares for Valley Center Opening
Thursday, August 09, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Wiring hangs from ceilings, flooring is being laid and tradesmen work to complete finishing touches on Eastern Gateway Community College’s new Valley Center downtown, but architect Mike Fagin is confident the first phase would be ready to turn over to the school by the Aug. 15 deadline.
“We’re close,” said Fagin, of Olsavsky Jaminet Architects, Youngstown.
KSU Tenure-Track Faculty Ratify Contract
Thursday, August 09, 2012KENT, Ohio -- Kent State University and the full-time, tenure-track faculty unit of the American Association of University Professors-Kent State Chapter have ratified a new three-year collective bargaining agreement.
The contract, which provides a 2% across-the-board salary increase for the 2011-2012 academic year, was approved unanimously by the university board of trustees.
