WRPA, Brownfield Coalition Target $200K for Projects

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Officials in Warren and Girard will use funds from a $600,000 EPA grant secured by the Western Reserve Port Authority-led Trumbull County Brownfield Coalition to begin the process of reclaiming two parcels of land that have long-blighted the two communities, reports WRPA's executive director, John Moliterno.
Franklin Looks to Tech, Education for Brighter ‘15

WARREN, Ohio -- Technology and education are driving recent and upcoming initiatives in this city.
Among the highlights of 2014 Mayor Doug Franklin cites is the relocation of Laird Technologies from Sharpsville, Pa., bringing 200 jobs here including 50 new jobs. “They’re a global leader in remote technologies in harsh environments,” he said. “It’s very cutting-edge technology and the growth expectations are off the charts basically.”
The mayor reflected on what he’s seen in his city in an end-of-the-year interview.
One Hot Cookie Witnesses Downtown’s Comeback

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- It’s something that would elicit a laugh or a “Yeah, right,” had you suggested it 20 years ago. But now, with downtown bouncing back, it isn’t quite as farfetched.
Every weekend, many of those visiting the restaurants, bars, clubs and entertainment centers close out their evening -- whether the night is still young or at last call -- lining up to buy cookies.
In the 21 months since One Hot Cookie opened in Erie Terminal Place, lines have become the norm on Commerce Street and around downtown Youngstown.
Youngstown Approves Grant Agreement for VAM Mill

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Board of Control Thursday approved accepting a $300,000 grant from JobsOhio to help VAM USA with its project on Ohio Works Drive.
The grant is part of the incentive package the state put together earlier this year to encourage VAM to move forward with the project.
“We had anticipated this,” said David Bozanich, city finance director. The state has just begun circulating the documents related to the grant, he said.
Adopt-a-Home Partnership Sells 1st House in Warren

WARREN, Ohio -- Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership, the Trumbull County Land Bank and Gregg’s Gardens say the sale of their first renovated house in Warren’s Garden District closed this week.
The sale results from the newly formed Adopt-a-Home partnership between TNP, the county land bank, Gregg’s Gardens, Trumbull 100 and Bill Casey, owner of Warren Paint and Glass (READ STORY).
