NILES, Ohio -- The director of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources says existing state regulations governing the oil and gas business, plus new rules being written, help ensure that the industry is properly managed and monitored.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection awarded just a single drilling permit last week to Hilcorp Energy Co. for a new vertical well in Mercer County, Pa., records show.
The permit, issued Jan. 9, gives Hilcorp the green light to drill a vertical well on the Drake property in Pymatuning Township.
Hilcorp is among the more active energy companies drilling in this portion of the Utica shale. In Pennsylvania, a vertical well permit is issued before a horizontal permit is approved.
