Pa. Issues Inaugural Oil and Gas Annual Report
Thursday, May 08, 2014HARRISBURG, Pa. -- The Department of Environmental Protection Wednesday released its inaugural oil and gas annual report that said in 2013 it issued 4,617 permits to drill wells in 2013 including "unconventional" wells, 17 of which were in Mercer County and 12 in Lawrence County.
"This report illustrates the great progress we have made in protecting our environment through increased inspections, tougher regulations and improved oversight of this industry," said Secretary E. Christopher Abruzzo in a prepared statement.
3rd Time No Charm for Community Bill of Rights
Wednesday, May 07, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The charter amendment that aimed to ban hydraulic fracturing and wastewater injection wells in the city was defeated for the third time in Tuesday’s election.
The Community Bill of Rights lreceived 3,100 votes in favor of its adoption and 3,674 votes against it, according to the Mahoning County Board of Elections. It was the third time in the last 12 months that voters have rejected the amendment.
Proponents of the measure vowed to place it on the ballot a fourth time.
