Oh Deer! Ohio Motorists Urged to Check Collision Insurance
Monday, November 08, 2004"COLUMBUS, Ohio -- With deer-vehicle collisions on the rise, Ohio Insurance Director Ann Womer Benjamin is asking Ohio motorists to investigate their insurance options and to take extra precaution while traveling. Typically, vehicle accidents involving deer are at their peak this time of the year, and early evening and dawn driving times are of particular concern, Womer Benjamin said.Last year, there were 31,729 deer-vehicle collisions in Ohio, a 4.7% increase over the previous year, Womer Benjamin said. "Fall is the time of year when most deer-vehicle accidents occur," she said.
Ohio's County Prosecutors Can Track DNA Evidence Online
Monday, November 08, 2004"COLUMBUS, Ohio -- County prosecutors in Ohio can track the testing status of DNA evidence that has been submitted to the Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation by local law enforcement agencies through DNA Online, a tool recently introduced by state Attorney General Jim Petro. The Web-based platform can be accessed only by registered law-enforcement officials, he emphasized."With DNA Online, prosecutors are able to log on and view the information as soon as one of their local law enforcement agencies submits evidence to BCI's lab," Petro said.
National City 'Rewards' Repaying Student Loans On Time
Monday, November 08, 2004"CLEVELAND -- National City Education Finance today introduced Repayment Rewards, a borrower benefits program for students and parents that is the first of its kind in the country, according to P. Gregory Stringer, senior vice president. National City Education Finance is one of the largest issuers of student loans in the United States, he said."Through Repayment Rewards, National City will dramatically lower the cost of an education loan," said Stringer. During the repayment period, the program provides students opportunities to reduce the loan principal by 1% each year.
MTR Gaming Group Nets $5.9 Million for Third Quarter

Va. -- Third-quarter revenues at MTR Gaming Group Inc. were $85.2 million compared with $84.1 million for the third quarter of 2003, officials announced late yesterday. Net income was $5.9 million, or 20 cents per diluted share, compared to $6 million or 21 cents per diluted share in the year-ago period. Net win from slot operations at Mountaineer Race Track & Gaming Resort remained constant at $68.6 million, producing net win-per-day-per-machine of $232 based on an average of 3,220 machines for both the current quarter and the third quarter of 2003.
