McKelvey Bans City Employees from Talking to Newspaper

McKelvey yesterday officially put The Business Journal on notice that city employees are prohibited from speaking to the newspaper's reporters. The mayor's directive was stated in a letter to publisher of The Business Journal, Andrea Wood.

Sammarone, has asked Mahoning County Common Pleas to grant the city a second extension of 30 days to prepare objections to Magistrate Eugene Fehr's decision handed down in late December.

Neshannock Business Park Gets $2.25M State Loan
Thursday, February 03, 2005HARRISBURG, Pa. -- A $2.25 million loan to fund construction of 127,070-square-foot building at the Neshannock Business Park in New Castle, Pa., was approved yesterday by the Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority. The loan was one of two announced by Dennis Yablonsky, secretary of the Pa. Department of Community and Economic Development. The other loan, in the amount of $800,000, will assist American Brochure and Catalog Co.

Despite reports of an imminent deal on a casino site in Mahoning and Trumbull counties, a representative of the Eastern Shawnee tribe told The Business Journal Wednesday that the tribe is considering a number of locations in the Mahoning Valley for one of five to seven casinos it plans to develop in Ohio. "We know there is strong interest in the Mahoning Valley," says Terry Casey, a consultant for the Eastern Shawnee Tribe.

Ryan Secures Subcommittee Seat with BRAC Oversight

Tim Ryan today announced he has received a prime subcommittee seat that will enable him to keep close watch on the upcoming base closing process as he lobbies to keep open the Youngstown Air Reserve Station.Ryan was appointed to the Readiness Subcommittee of the House Armed Services Committee. The subcommittee was Ryan's first choice, he said, because it has oversight over the Base Re-Alignment and Closure (BRAC) process."The BRAC process is going to be extremely competitive," Ryan said.
