Grove City Expands Partnership with Osteopathic College
Thursday, October 24, 2013GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Students at Grove City College interested in medicine, pharmacy and dentistry can gain provisional early acceptance to the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, the schools report. Officials at both have agreed to expand their strategic partnership.
The schools renewed their agreement for Lake Erie’s College of Medicine and signed new agreements for its School of Pharmacy and School of Dental Medicine.
Hometown Pharmacy Acquires 10th Store
Thursday, October 24, 2013BOARDMAN, Ohio -- Hometown Pharmacy Solutions, parent of The Hometown Pharmacies, has acquired Dierken’s Pharmacy in Monongahela, Pa., CEO Garry Mrozek announced this week.
Dierken’s, just south of Pittsburgh, is Hometown’s 10th retail store and fourth in Pennsylvania.
Terms were not disclosed.
“Despite a volatile health-care industry, we have managed to find our niche and continue to grow,” Mrozek said. Hometown is 12 years old.
Ohio Grants Fund Razing of 6,000 Properties
Thursday, October 24, 2013COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio's Demolition Grant Program has paid for more than 6,000 properties to be demolished, state Attorney General Mike DeWine reports. The state set aside $75 million for demolition grants, allocating funds based on the percentage of foreclosures in each of the 88 counties from 2008 to 2010.
New Well Permit Issued for Columbiana County
Wednesday, October 23, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Ohio Department of Natural Resources has awarded Chesapeake Exploration LLC a new horizontal well permit for oil and gas exploration in Columbiana County, records show.
ODNR issued the new well permit Oct. 16 for the Sosenko property in Hanover Township, the agency reported. No additional permits for Trumbull or Mahoning counties during the week ending Oct. 19.
Former Chesapeake Exec Heads Marcellus Coalition
Wednesday, October 23, 2013PITTSBURGH -- The Marcellus Shale Coalition has named David Spigelmyer as the organization's president. Spigelmyer, formerly vice president of Chesapeake Energy Corp.'s Appalachia division, assumed the position Monday. He replaces Kathryn Klaber.
Spigelmyer's selection followed a two-month search process, says the coalition's chairman, Randy Albert, Consol Energy's COO of gas operations.

Wednesday, October 23, 2013SHARON, Pa. – Noise Solutions Inc. is already looking at employment and investment beyond what it initially planned for its new plant here, says its vice president of operations.
Originally projecting about 150 jobs for the plant, located in 55,000 square feet of space at the former Westinghouse property it purchased from the Winner Companies, Noise Solutions is looking at 200 jobs over the next three years, said Taymour Ebrehim. The plant, which began production last month, so far has 28 employees.
NSF Grant Positions YSU For STEM Growth
Wednesday, October 23, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- A $470,000 grant from the National Science Foundation stands to raise the bar in materials and engineering science research at Youngstown State University, officials said Tuesday.
The money will be used to purchase potentially two high-end, X-ray diffractometers, equipment that will allow students enrolled in the university's College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, or STEM, to examine crystal and powder molecules at an atomic level.
