Mahoning Cultural Collaborative to Host Teacher Open House
Monday, January 13, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Mahoning Cultural Collaborative, a coalition of area museums and schools, is hosting a Teacher Open House from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Jan. 21 at Fellows Riverside Gardens, Traci Manning of the Mahoning Valley Historical Society, announced last week.
Representatives from museums and cultural resource centers will be available to answer questions about educational programs, field trips, outreach programs and other topics.
One Hot Cookie to Add Austintown Library Location
Friday, January 10, 2014AUSTINTOWN, Ohio -- One Hot Cookie plans a February opening date for its second location, inside the Austintown branch of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County.
Offerings at the new store will mirror those of the original location, which opened last year in Erie Terminal Place in downtown Youngstown, said owner Bergen Giordani. Those include traditional and specialty cookies, ice cream, milk, soft drinks and coffee.
CSU Study Finds 'Moderate' Shale Activity in Valley
Friday, January 10, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio --A quarterly study released by Cleveland State University shows that Mahoning and Trumbull counties demonstrate "moderate" oil and gas activity in eastern Ohio's Utica shale, while other counties to the south are experiencing stronger returns.
The Ohio Utica Shale Gas Monitor, written by Edward N. Hill and Kelly Kinahan of CSU's Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs, also notes that while overall revenues from sales taxes have increased among shale-active counties, the level of employment has not yet matched that pace.
