Chamber’s Cann Joins State Development Association
Wednesday, October 29, 2014COLUMBUS, Ohio -- William Cann, Trumbull County manager of business development for the Youngstown Warren Regional Chamber, was voted in as an Ohio Economic Development Association board member and area director for the Northeast Region for 2015.
Cann, of Austintown, has been with the Regional Chamber since 2012. He earned his bachelor’s degree and master’s in business administration from Youngstown State University. He will replace Sarah Boyarko, vice president of economic development, North America, for the Regional chamber. Her term expires in December.
October on Pace for Record Sales of New Vehicles
Wednesday, October 29, 2014WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. -- New-vehicle retail sales are expected to reach their highest level for October since 2004, according to a monthly sales forecast developed jointly by J.D. Power and LMC Automotive.
Retail sales of new vehciles are projected to come in at 1.1 million units, a 6% increase compared with October 2013.
Ryan Calls on FDA to Change Sugar Labeling
Wednesday, October 29, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan called on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to enact a clearer and more tangible way to label the sugar content in foods by changing the measurement to teaspoons instead of grams to make it easier for consumers to conceptualize the true amount of sugar in a product.
Ryan, author of The Real Food Revolution, sent a letter to FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg calling for the change earlier this week.
Nov. 5 Seminar Set at YSU on Importing, Selling Arms

Robert Imbriani, whom YSU describes as “an expert on export controls under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations, the Export Administration Regulations and other U.S. export control laws and regulations,” will present the program.
Net Income Up for Q3, YTD at First Niles Financial

That's an increase of $192,000, the company said.

As the accident rate rose, so too did the need for additional space at King Collision, which formally opened its fourth shop in the region at 5801 Southern Blvd., Monday afternoon.
Apple Provides Tech Grant for Chaney STEM School
Tuesday, October 28, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Chaney STEM/VPN Campus was selected as one of 114 schools that will receive a grant from technology giant Apple.
The grant will provide every student, teacher and administrator at Chaney with an iPad, according to a news release issued by U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan, D-13 Ohio. The grant is part of President Obama’s ConnectED initiative. Chaney is one of three Ohio schools selected to share in Apple's grants totaling $100 million over the next few years.
Eclipse Resources' New Utica Wells Show Promise
