Laird Technologies Unveils New Operations in Warren
Friday, October 31, 2014WARREN, Ohio -- London-based Laird Technologies is in growth mode across the company's entire global footprint -- a footprint that encompasses a new manufacturing and distribution plant here, executives formally announced Thursday.
"We think it's got real potential to be a growth driver for Laird," says CEO David Lockwood, in town to celebrate the opening of the new plant during a ribbon-cutting Thursday. "Our new home here will enable us to continue to deliver innovative products to the customers with reliable fulfillment and speed."
A&C Beverage to Open Upscale Store Downtown
Friday, October 31, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Passing the downtown structure that until recently housed the Edison Financial Credit Union on his way to church, Al Franceschelli always found it was unusual looking.
In a few months, that “oddball building,” as he describes it -- at 45 South Ave., east of the U.S. Postal Service’s main Youngstown office downtown -- will become the new home for Francheschelli’s A&C Southway Beverage. He is relocating the store from 2733 South Ave. and expanding the operation.
Data Breaches at Home Depot Cost Credit Unions $60M
Friday, October 31, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The data security breach at Home Depot has cost credit unions in the United States nearly $60 million in unreimbursed expenses, the Credit Union National Association reported Thursday. CUNA is headquartered in Washington, D.C.
Affected by the breaches are nearly 165,000 members of Ohio credit unions that incurred more than $1.3 million in related expense, said Patrick Harris, director of legislative affairs for the Ohio Credit Union League in Columbus.

Huntington Bank Ranked Highest by Small Businesses
Friday, October 31, 2014COLUMBUS, Ohio -- In this year’s J.D. Power survey of banks, small-business owners raked Huntington Bank the highest in customer satisfaction among banks based in the Midwest, the bank announced Thursday.
“Huntington performs particularly well in facility, fees, account information and channel activities,” the bank said the J.D. Power survey found.
The survey is the second consecutive annual assessment conducted by J.D. Power that ranked Huntington highest in the North Central Region in its U.S. Banking Retail Satisfaction Study.
FirstEnergy Installs Transmission Line to Pennant
Friday, October 31, 2014AKRON, Ohio -- FirstEnergy Corp. has completed a new 3.5-mile, 138-kilovolt transmission line in its Ohio Edison territory to serve a Pennant Midstream natural gas processing plant in Springfield Township in Mahoning County, it announced Thursday.
The utility described the project as one aspect of its efforts to support the growing shale gas industry in Ohio.
The nearly $3 million project replaces the temporary equipment installed earlier and allows for expansion at the plant.

Located at 7631 Market St., the store features more than 100 brands and items including furnishings, clothes, jewelry and greeting cards.
“I’ve been dreaming of opening a store since I was a little girl. My all-time favorite toy was a cash register and I changed my outfits six, seven times a day when I was 4,” recalled Deloran Muransky, the store’s owner.
Strollo Architects to Close on Loan for Wells Building
Thursday, October 30, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- As the Nov. 21 deadline to exercise historic-tax credits approaches, Strollo Architects seems certain to secure the funding it needs to take possession of the Wells Building, 201-205 W. Federal St., renovate the four-story structure and move in next summer.
The vacant structure, with a terra cotta façade built in the Classical Revival style, will turn 100 next year. It is listed in the National Registry of Historic Places.
