Ohio State Park Resorts Offer Vacation Packages
Thursday, May 20, 2004CAMBRIDGE, Ohio -- Golf and getaways highlight upcoming package offerings at seven Ohio State Park Resorts. Xanterra Parks & Resorts, operator of seven resorts in state parks across Ohio, is offering a new selection of vacation packages for the summer and fall 2004 season.Available at six of the resorts are Golf Packages that include two nights of lodging in a standard double room, two breakfast coupons, two dinner coupons, 36 holes of golf with cart and taxes. From June 1 through Sept. 2, rates range from $228 to $259 on Sunday through Thursday and $237 to $319 on Friday and Saturday.

Appeals Court Upholds Traficant's Conviction
Wednesday, May 19, 2004YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati today rejected Jim Traficant's appeal of his bribery and racketeering convictions, finding no merit in the former congressman's double jeopardy claim and denying to review his contention that the jury selection process violated his constitutional rights.The ruling was handed down this morning.Traficant remains incarcerated at a federal prison in Ray Brook, N.Y. The former congressman was sentenced July 30, 2002, to eight years in prison, three years of supervised release and ordered to pay $150,000 in fines.

Second Bancorp Shareholders Approve Merger with Sky Financial
Wednesday, May 19, 2004WARREN, Ohio -- Shareholders of Second Bancorp Inc. approved the company's merger with and into Sky Financial Group Inc. at Second Bancorp's May 18 special meeting of shareholders. The merger, first announced on Jan. 8, was approved by 96.3% of the Second Bancorp shares voted at the meeting (69.5% of Second Bancorp's outstanding shares), comfortably exceeding the majority approval required for adoption.The merger, pending regulatory approval, is expected to be completed July 1.

Wednesday, May 19, 2004By Andrea WoodYOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The for-sale sign is up at WKBN-TV and the 12 other stations owned by Piedmont Broadcasting Co. of Charlotte, N.C., sources confirm.Employees learned the news at a recent staff meeting where they were told the timing may be right because of the windfall of political dollars coming into the station this presidential election year.One year ago the chief executive officer of Piedmont, Paul Brissette, said his company turned down an unsolicited offer of $260 million for its 13 television stations.
