Advance Auto Parts to Bring 500 Jobs to Pennsylvania

Martha Stewart Proposes Community Service to Lessen Sentence
Tuesday, June 01, 2004NEW YORK -- As her sentencing day approaches, Martha Stewart has come up with a plan to stay out of jail or at least get out early. Newsweek magazine has learned that Stewart will seek to serve all or part of her jail sentence helping underprivileged women start their own businesses.Recently, Stewart approached the nonprofit New York-basedWomen's Venture Fund, offering to work 20 hours a week teaching low-income and minority women to become entrepreneurs, Newsweek reports in the current issue, on newsstands yesterday.
Steelworkers Ratify Agreement with ATI Allegheny Ludlum
Tuesday, June 01, 2004PITTSBURGH -- Rank-and-file members of United Steelworkers of America have approved new collective-bargaining agreements with Allegheny Technologies Inc. covering operations of ATI Allegheny Ludlum and J&L Specialty Steel by a 62% to 38% margin, USWA officials announced recently.Membership approval in the mail-ballot vote clears the way for the company's acquisition of assets of J&L Specialty Steel, which is expected to be completed on June 1.
Supermarkets Do Best Job of Serving Customers
Tuesday, June 01, 2004ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Supermarkets and packaged food companies top the list of industries which get the best marks for serving their customers, according to the annual Harris Poll ranking 15 industries on how well they serve consumers. Fully 87% believe supermarkets do a good job of serving their consumers, and 77% feel this way about the packaged food companies. Next on the list come airlines (74%), computer hardware (73%), banks (73%), and software (72%) companies. At the bottom of the list, only 30% think tobacco companies and managed care companies do a good job.

Public Blames OPEC, Oil Companies, Not U.S. Government"
Friday, May 28, 2004ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- As gasoline prices soar, with many motorists now paying more than $2 a gallon, a new Harris poll brings good news for the White House. Only 23% of the public thinks that the U.S. government is mainly to blame for high gas prices. Most people blame either OPEC (37%) or foreign oil producers (35%) rather than the government.The poll surveyed 2,141 adults who own or lease a vehicle.
Bruce & Merrilees Sells Material Sales Division to Yesco
Friday, May 28, 2004NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Bruce & Merrilees Electric Co. today announced it has sold its material sales division to Yesco Inc. of Youngstown. The sale is effective immediately.Yesco will retain all employees of the division, assume the current location of the business, and has signed a long-term lease with the property owner, said Jay Bruce, chief operating officer of Bruce & Merrilees.The material sales division provides electrical and building materials to local electrical, HVAC, and general construction customers and is a minor division within Bruce & Merrilees.

Second Bancorp Declares 19-Cent Dividend on Common Stock
Friday, May 28, 2004WARREN, Ohio -- Second Bancorp Inc. has declared a dividend of 19 cents per common share payable July 6 to shareholders of record June 29. The dividend is unchanged from the previous quarter.The dividend is payable after Second National's merger with Sky Financial Group Inc., Bowling Green, scheduled for July 1 and will be paid under "dividend coordination" language in the two financial services corporations' agreement and plan of merger announced Jan. 8.
