Thursday, May 27, 2004WHEELING, W.Va. -- Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp. is now using a new metallic heat exchanger on its No. 1 blast furnace, and the device, which pre-heats blast gas used in the operation of the blast furnace, is expected to reduce the consumption of coke by about 3,000 tons per month, the company reports.The $4 million heat exchanger is expected to pay for itself in coke savings during the first two months of its operations.

With an eye toward improving productivity and quality, steel companies continue to invest heavily in their Ohio facilities in 2004.Ohio's steel production and shipments also rose during the first quarter.

E-Crime On the Increase
Wednesday, May 26, 2004FRAMINGHAM, Mass. -- A significant number of organizations are reporting an increase in electronic crimes (e-crimes) and network, system or data intrusions, according to the 2004 E-Crime Watch survey. Fully 43% of respondents report an increase in e-crimes and intrusions versus the previous year, and 70% report at least one e-crime or intrusion was committed against their organization.Respondents say that e-crime cost their organizations approximately $666 million in 2003.
Sky Financial Receives Regulatory OK for Second Bancorp Merger

As previously announced May 18, Second Bancorp shareholders approved the company's merger with and into Sky Financial.
