YSU Students Ready for Builders’ Competition

On Friday, 22 of those Youngstown State University students will divide into three teams and be given a real-life construction project to analyze and then prepare a construction bid just as if they were working in the industry.
Library Sets Crossword Competition for Saturday
Thursday, April 11, 2013POLAND, Ohio -- Crossword puzzle enthusiasts are invited to participate in the third annual Crossword Puzzle Challenge, which will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Poland Branch of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County.
The tournament’s format will be similar to that of the American Crossword Puzzle Tournament, founded by Will Shortz, puzzle editor for The New York Times. Event organizer Tyler Clark travelled to Brooklyn last month for the national event.

Timken Completes $85M in Improvements in Canton

The investments in the steel business include an open-die in-line forge press at the Faircrest Steel Plant here and an intermediate finishing line and second induction thermal treatment line at the Gambrinus Steel Plant, also at the Canton plant.
Chesapeake Markets Acres in Stark, Portage Counties
Wednesday, April 10, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Chesapeake Energy Corp., the largest driller in Ohio's Utica shale, is looking to sell more than 94,000 net leasehold acres in Stark and Portage counties.
According to a listing posted on Meagher Energy Partner's website Tuesday, Chesapeake wants to unload 94,205 net acres in what is generally thought of as the "oil window" of the Utica play.
The sale includes three wells, two of which Chesapeake operates, the listing said. Details on the site describe the acreage as having good organic compound and low water saturations.

Halcon Gets Permits for Wells in Mahoning, Mercer
Wednesday, April 10, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Halcon Operating Co., a division of Halcon Resources, has secured a permit to drill a new horizontal well in Jackson Township in Mahoning County, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
Halcon, which is also developing wells in nearby Lordstown Township in Trumbull County, was awarded the permit on April 4 to drill on the Davidson property.
