More Job Growth Projected at Restaurants This Year
Monday, February 10, 2014WASHINGTON -- The restaurant industry remained among the economy's leaders in job creation in 2013, and the trend is expected to continue this year, The National Restaurant Association says.
Serving people who eat and drink outside their residences -- the primary component of the restaurant industry that accounts for roughly three-fourths of their workforce -- added jobs at a 3.7% last year.
Consumers Want Technologies They Can Wear
Monday, February 10, 2014NEW YORK -- A new consumer-electronics market category is generating significant interest: Wearable technologies. More than half of consumers surveyed are interested in buying wearable technologies such as fitness monitors to track their exercise routines and manage their health.
Many are also interested in buying smart watches (46%) and Internet-connected eyeglasses (42%), according to a recent survey by Accenture of consumers in six countries including the United States.
CEOs More Aware of Being Held to Account
Monday, February 10, 2014CHICAGO -- Chief executive officers are feeling the expectations of performing at higher levels as the economy continues to improve, finds the RHR International 2014 CEO Snapshot Survey.
Fully two-thirds of CEOs said increased stakeholder scrutiny on their performances affects their perceptions of their job security. Last year’s survey found 45% felt such a level of scrutiny.

Chesapeake to Drill Fewer Wells In Utica, Marcellus
Friday, February 07, 2014OKLAHOMA CITY -- Chesapeake Energy Corp. said Thursday it will reduce capital expenditures in 2014 to $5.2 billion, a 20% reduction from the $5.6 billion company spent to drill for oil and gas in 2013.
After adjusting for asset sales – Chesapeake sold $3.6 billion worth of assets in the first nine months of 2013 (fourth-quarter results are not yet posted – the company projects production growth of 8% to 10%.
