Despite Climb, Gas Prices Down $1.11 from Year Ago

PITTSBURGH -- Gas prices are up 20 cents from a week ago in northeastern Ohio, but the average price is still down more than $1 from the price motorists were paying a year ago, AAA East Central’s Fuel Gauge report shows.
January VLT Revenue Down 6.2% at Austintown Racino

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Revenue from video lottery terminals at Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course was down 6.2% in January compared to December, about twice as much as the statewide drop.
In January, according to the Ohio Lottery Commission, which oversees VLT operations in the state, bettors played credits worth $64.6 million in January at the Austintown racino, down from $68.9 million in December. The racino opened in September. To date, wagers at Mahoning Valley have totaled $333.1 million.
Advocacy Group Praises Injection Well Oversight

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Energy in Depth, a shale industry advocacy group, says Ohio is “leading the way on injection well regulations.”
A post on the group’s website cites last week’s meeting in Trumbull County, home to the most Class II brine injection wells in Ohio -- 17 -- and credits “thoughtful leadership in Trumbull County.”
Car, Truck Sales Rise Slightly in Mahoning Valley

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Sales of new vehicles in the Mahoning Valley rose slightly in January as dealers sold 2,343 new cars and trucks, a 1.8% increase over January 2014, the Automobile Dealers Association of Eastern Ohio reported Monday.
Combined sales of new and used vehicles rose 1.3% last month over a year earlier with 5,250 new and used cars and trucks leaving dealer showrooms and lots in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties.
CityScape to Honor F.N.B, Asimakopoulos Feb. 26

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Youngstown CityScape will host a "Grass Roots Gala" recognizing First National Bank of Pennsylvania and Pete Asimakopoulos, its Youngstown market president, Feb. 26 at the D.D. and Velma Davis Center in Mill Creek MetroParks. A social will take place at 5:30 p.m. followed by the dinner at 6:30 p.m.
Since 2010, Youngstown CityScape has awarded the Sweet Grass Roots Award to an individual who has "made significant personal and professional commitment to the organization’s mission of revitalizing downtown Youngstown," the group says.
Open Season for Marathon Utica Build-Out

FINDLAY, Ohio -- Marathon Pipe Line LLC and Ohio River Pipe Line LLC, divisions of MPLX LP, Monday announced the start of a binding open season to assess interest and solicit commitments from prospective shippers on the Cornerstone Pipeline and associated Utica Shale build-out projects.
The binding open season provides shippers the opportunity to secure priority and non-priority transportation service on these pipelines. It began yesterday and concludes March 13.

Local Health Foundations Seek Proposals for Grants

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Western Reserve Health Foundation and the Western Reserve Health Foundation are welcoming grant proposals for "innovative programs" that serve health needs in Mahoning and Trumbull counties.
The foundations, which are affiliates of the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley, have set deadlines of Friday, Feb. 27, for initial letters of inquiry. The required forms and more information about funding priorities are available at the WRHF and TMHF sections of the Community Foundation website.
Poland Rotary to Hold 30th Annual Chili Open Feb. 21

POLAND, Ohio -- More than three decades ago, Larry Warren and some of his fellow Rotarians had the same response -- “What?!?” – when a founder of the club told of a golf event he had participated in on a frozen lake near Akron. He suggested the Poland Rotary do the same thing here.
“We didn’t have a lake big enough that was frozen so we used a variety of places over the years,” Warren remembers.
