Ryan, House Dems Urge Vote on Jobless Benefits
Thursday, December 12, 2013WASHINGTON -- U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan, D-13 Ohio, joined 165 of his Democratic House colleagues Wednesday in signing a letter to House Speaker John Boehner urging him to bring an extension of federal unemployment benefits to the House floor for a vote.
Benefits are scheduled to expire Dec. 28, cutting jobless aid to 1.3 million Americans immediately, and an additional 1.9 million Americans will lose their federal unemployment insurance during the first six months of 2014, according to the Democrats.
Johnson Hosts Constituents for 'Christmas Coffee'
Tuesday, December 10, 2013SALEM, Ohio – U.S. Rep. Bill Johnson is “cautiously optimistic” regarding prospects for a budget agreement that would stave off the next round of cuts mandated by sequestration.
The congressman, R-6 Ohio, says he's encouraged by indications during the past few weeks that U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan, R-1 Wis., and U.S. Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., perhaps have “begun to narrow the gap and that we may see something come out of the budget conference,” he reported.
Johnson to Host 'Christmas Coffee' Monday in Salem
Friday, December 06, 2013MARIETTA, Ohio – U.S. Rep. Bill Johnson, R-6 Ohio, will host a “Christmas Coffee with Bill” at his Salem district office, 192 E. State St., at 10 a.m. Monday.
The casual event, announced Friday afternoon by Johnson’s office, is a come-and-go opportunity for constituents to visit and speak directly with the congressman. No RSVP or pre-registration is required.
Senate Committee to Review Williams' Nomination
Wednesday, December 04, 2013WASHINGTON -- A confirmation hearing is scheduled for Dec. 17 on former Youngstown Mayor Jay Williams’ nomination to head the Economic Development Administration in the U.S. Commerce Department.
The U.S. Senate Committee on Environment & Public Works will consider President Obama’s nomination of Williams to serve as assistant secretary of commerce for economic development at the hearing, scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
Williams, who endorsed Obama early in the 2008 primaries and campaigned on his behalf, said he is unable to comment on the confirmation process.
