Brown Testifies Vallourec 'Struggling' to Compete

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown called on the International Trade Commission to protect American steel manufacturers and the jobs they support in testimony before the panel Tuesday.
In his testimony, Brown, D-Ohio, told the commission that these unfair trade practices have hurt the competitiveness of Ohio manufacturers and threatened the jobs of their workers. Unfair imports have already resulted in layofsf at JMC Steel in Warren, and even Vallourec’s “state-of-the-art” mill in Youngstown “is struggling to compete against Korean OCTG in the U.S. market,” he testified.
Officials Applaud Commerce Ruling on OCTG Dumping

WASHINGTON -- U.S. Sens. Sherrod Brown and Rob Portman applauded a Commerce Department ruling Friday on the dumping of imports in certain Oil Country Tubular Goods into the United States.
Following months of efforts by the senators to urge the U.S. Commerce Department to crack down on countries that dump their steel in the U.S. market, the department ruled that it would do so by levying trade tariffs against the nine countries, including South Korea.
Portman to ‘Take a Look’ at 2016 Presidential Run

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- U.S. Sen. Rob Portman, R-Ohio, told reporters Thursday that he plans to run for reelection in 2016, but would consider seeking the Republican nomination for president if no one else addresses the economic issues he is concerned with who can win in the general election.
Cleveland Selected as Site for 2016 GOP Convention

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Republican National Committee’s Site Selection Committee today announced that it wants the party’s 2016 national convention to be held in Cleveland.
It will be the first national political convention to be held in Ohio since 1936.
RNC Chairman Reince Priebus made the announcement on Fox News.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Congress returns to work tomorrow and topping the political agenda is replenishing the Highway Trust Fund, which funds road construction projects but will be insolvent by late August if action is not taken.

Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, at the site of the $6 million project at U.S. Route 224 and Interstate 680, the biggest traffic tie-up in Mahoning County, to rally local support for what his office terms a “bipartisan approach to fixing America’s highways and bridges by passing a long-term transportation bill.”
