Business Becomes More Wary of Affordable Care Act

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The reactions range from caution to confusion among companies as they prepare for the new rules and regulations that take effect next year under the Affordable Care Act, say area insurance brokers who deal mostly with corporate clients.
“The mandates are a mess on the employers,” says Brad White, CEO of the Tartan Companies, Boardman. “Regulations are the biggest issue right now and it’s all about trying to stay compliant.”
YSU, Canfield Physician to Conduct Drug Trial Study

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- A Canfield physician and a Youngstown State University professor will jointly conduct a clinical drug study funded by a global pharmaceutical firm, YSU Interim Provost Martin Abraham announced Wednesday.
At a press event at YSU, Abraham presented Erdal Sarac, M.D., medical director at the Centers for Dialysis Care in Canfield, and Jane Wetzel, Ph.D., assistant professor of physical therapy at YSU.
Affordable Care Act Has Healthy Effect on Hospitals

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Hospitals in the region report that the Affordable Care Act is having a healthy effect on the community. Health-care professionals cite the rising number of patients with private insurance or expanded benefits under federal programs such as Medicaid.
“Overall, I think the Affordable Care Act has been positive to the community,” says Matthew Love, senior vice president and chief financial officer at Mercy Health, formerly Humility of Mary Health Partners.
HMHP Becomes Mercy; Affiliates Adopt New Names

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Name changes for the three health centers affiliated with Humility of Mary Health Partners will accompany HMHP’s adoption of the Mercy Health name.
HMHP announced this morning that it would change its name to Mercy Health, which Catholic Health Partners, HMHP’s parent, adopted this summer. At that time, it was determined that all CHP partners would eventually mirror that name change.
CHCC to Cease Operating 2 Nursing Homes Dec. 31

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- CHCC Health Care Centers Inc. says it will cease operating Campus Health Care Center, 196 Colonial Drive, and its Cedarcreek Health Care Center, 4121 Tod Avenue NW in Warren, by Dec. 31, potentially idling a combined 156 employees.
