HMHP Becomes Mercy; Affiliates Adopt New Names
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Name changes for the three health centers affiliated with Humility of Mary Health Partners will accompany HMHP’s adoption of the Mercy Health name.
HMHP announced this morning that it would change its name to Mercy Health, which Catholic Health Partners, HMHP’s parent, adopted this summer. At that time, it was determined that all CHP partners would eventually mirror that name change.
At the same time, the three health centers operated by HMHP – St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown, St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center in Boardman and St. Joseph Health Center in Warren – will now be known respectively as St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital and St. Joseph Warren Hospital. Also, HMHP Physician Associates will become Mercy Health Physicians.
“Changing our name to Mercy Health clearly identifies us as being an integral part of one of the largest Catholic health systems in the country,” said Bob Shroder, president and CEO of Mercy Health locally, formerly HMHP.
“In this rapidly changing world of health care, where providers are continually challenged to do more with less and where we are held accountable not only for the care we provide our patients, but for the overall health of the communities we serve, being clearly identifiable as a member of the largest family of health care providers in Ohio is a benefit to our patients, our employees and our communities,” he continued.
During the transition, the Mercy Health name will be added to many materials, but new signage reflecting this name change will not be installed on buildings until a definitive time frame has been established for the full migration to the Mercy Health brand across all markets. In Ohio, Mercy operates in Cincinnati, Toledo, Lorain and Springfield as well as in the Mahoning Valley.
Local board chairwoman Betty Jo Licata offered that while the system’s name is changing, its mission remains the same.
“The care and compassion of this health-care ministry has been a part of our community for more than a century. We’ve seen a lot of changes -- and through this evolution we will continue to honor the legacy of our founders, the Sisters of the Humility of Mary, by improving the lives in the communities we serve,” she said.
