Delphi Connection Systems Forms Alliance with Parlex
Thursday, August 19, 2004TROY, Mich. -- Delphi Corp. (NYSE:DPH) announced today that it has formed a strategic alliance with Parlex Corp. (Nasdaq:PRLX) of Methuen, Mass., to boost sales for both companies in the military and aerospace interconnect market. The agreement calls for Parlex to provide Delphi Connection Systems, a business line within the corporation's Packard Electric division of Warren, Ohio, with flexible circuits and rigid flexible circuits.

Convocation Center Bids Too High -- Or No Bids at All
Thursday, August 19, 2004By George NelsonYOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Elevator work at the construction site for the Youngstown convocation center will have to be rebid a second time, and plumbing work likely will be rebid again. The three bids for the plumbing package of the convocation center opened Wednesday afternoon came in significantly higher than engineers' estimates, while for a second time there were no bids for elevators. The three companies and their bids submitted for the plumbing package were Prout Boiler Heating & Welding Inc. of Youngstown, $428,000; Komar Plumbing Inc.

Gail D. Fosler, executive vice president and chief economist, said the passing of the early acceleration phase of the business cycle has led to the misperception that these economies are at risk, but this is not the case. "This phase is quite normal," Fosler said.
Council OKs Buying More Land for Convocation Center
Thursday, August 19, 2004YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- City Council approved ordinances last night that pave the way for the city to acquire the remaining land needed for the Youngstown Convocation Center downtown.Council passed legislation authorizing the city's board of control to proceed with relocation assistance for the Giannios Candy Co. and Spectrum Electronics, two tenants housed in the former Goodyear Building along Front Street.The city is scheduled to take possession of the property Aug. 31, and has put up $322,000 for the land and building, reported Jeffrey Chagnot, economic development director.
F.N.B. Declares 23-Cent Cash Dividend

The second-quarter dividend is payable Sept. 15 to shareholders of record as of the close of business Sept. 1. "This dividend -- on an annualized basis -- represents a current dividend yield of 4.5%, which places F.N.B.

Dann Bikes for Bucks
Wednesday, August 18, 2004COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Pushing pedals along the Western Reserve Greenway yesterday, state Sen. Marc Dann (D-Liberty Township) yesterday said his bike tour is an effort to promote the need for funding to complete the bike trails along the Greenway. Along the way, he met with local government officials to discuss the project.The Western Reserve Greenway is a 48-mile section of the Great Ohio Lake-to-River Greenway that goes from Warren County to Ashtabula County. "Completion of the trail will improve the quality of life in Trumbull and Ashtabula Counties," Dann said.
Kerry Carries Kids' Votes
Wednesday, August 18, 2004GLENDALE, Calif. -- They're not old enough to vote, but if them could, 40% of U.S. kids ages 8 to 17 would choose John Kerry, according to an online poll by Myers/Neopets.com. President George W. Bush garnered 38% of the youth vote, 1% said they'd pick Ralph Nader, and 11% were undecided.The poll included an equal number of boys and girls.Comparatively, a similar poll conducted prior to the Democratic National Convention showed Bush and Kerry in a virtual dead heat, reeling in 41% and 40% of the youngsters' votes, respectively.
