SBC Communications Teams Up With Upromise
Wednesday, June 09, 2004SAN ANTONIO -- SBC Communications Inc. recently announced a new agreement that will help turn talk and TV watching into dollars for higher education. Through a deal with Upromise, eligible SBC customers can earn money for college by purchasing qualifying SBC services -- including wireless, interstate long distance plans, and satellite TV, says Scott Helbing, senior vice president, SBC consumer marketing.Monies earned through SBC purchases are deposited directly into the customer's Upromise account.

Wednesday, June 09, 2004SANTA MONICA, Calif. -- Payments to Wellpoint executives after the company's previously announced buyout by Anthem Inc. could top $600 million if regulators and shareholders do not modify the acquisition terms, according to documents received from California regulators by the Foundation for Taxpayer and Consumer Rights under a Public Records Act Request late Tuesday.The documents outline potential payments in excess of those estimated by the company to shareholders at $200 million in a recent proxy, says Jamie Court, president of FTCR and author of Corporateering.

Lodge at Grand Lake St. Marys Under Study
Tuesday, June 08, 2004CELINA, Ohio -- State and local officials will conduct a market feasibility study to determine the financial viability of a resort lodge at Grand Lake St. Marys State Park in Mercer and Auglaize counties. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources is coordinating the study, which will evaluate several factors, including possible local partnerships, travel and tourism data, demographics, population projections, highway access, potential customers and residential and commercial growth.

The Western Reserve Care System Cancer CareCenter at Beeghly began seeing patients yesterday, officials report.The center is part of a $100 million master facility expansion project that is currently under way at Forum Health's campuses in Mahoning and Trumbull County.

Tuesday, June 08, 2004CLEVELAND -- Cole National Corp., a retailer of optical services and personalized gifts with over 2,900 locations throughout North America and the Caribbean, today reported a net loss of $500,000 for the first quarter of fiscal 2004 compared with a net loss of $6.4 million for the first quarter of fiscal 2003.The gross margin rate at Things Remembered, which operates a distribution center in North Jackson, Ohio, increased to 72.8% from 72.5% in last year's first quarter as a result of an increase in personalization sales, which carry a high gross margin rate.
