Coalition Again Pushes for Charter Amendment's Defeat
Friday, April 04, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- A coalition of business, labor and public officials is once again encouraging voters to turn down the proposed Community Bill of Rights charter amendment slated for the city's May 6 primary.
Members of the Mahoning Valley Coalition on Job Growth and Investment say the charter amendment -- which would ban the practice of hydraulic fracturing and deep well injection in the city -- would deter business development and cost the region jobs.
Arraignment Set for 3rd Person in Brine Dumping Case
Thursday, April 03, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Mark A. Goff, the third person charged with violation of the Clean Water Act in connection with the Hardrock Excavating LLC brine-dumping case, is scheduled for arraignment April 14 and is expected to enter a plea before a federal district court in Cleveland, the government announced today.
Goff, along with two other defendants, former Hardrock and D&L Energy president Ben Lupo and former Hardrock employee Michael Guesman, were charged with one count of violating the Clean Water Act.
US Natural Gas Output Rises 1.5% in March
Thursday, April 03, 2014DENVER -- Spurred by the three days of the highest production in U.S. history, domestic natural gas production in the lower 48 states averaged 66.6 billion cubic feet, or Bcf, per day in March. Production levels on March 29, 30 and 31 came in at 67.6 Bcf per day, the single highest production days since last Nov. 9.
Average gas production in March was up 1.0 Bcf per day, or 1.5% from February, and up 2.54% versus levels seen in March 2013, according to the latest estimates from Bentek Energy, the oil and natural gas analytic unit of Platts.
Women in Energy Summit April 28 in Canfield
Thursday, April 03, 2014CANFIELD, Ohio --The Women in Energy Summit will be held from 9 a.m. until noon April 28 at the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center. The summit will be hosted by U.S. Rep. Bill Johnson, R-6 Ohio.
Lt. Gov. Mary Taylor will deliver the keynote address.
Two reports will be presented: “Energy Revolution Creates Career Opportunities for Women” by Christina Polesovsky of the Ohio Petroleum Council, and “Industry Education and Scholarships for Energy Careers” by Rhonda Reda of the Ohio Oil & Gas Education Program.
Columbiana County Surpasses 100 Well Permits
Tuesday, April 01, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- More than 100 horizontal well permits have been issued in Columbiana County since oil and gas exploration took hold in the Utica shale in 2010, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
Chesapeake Exploration LLC was awarded a third permit to drill at the Huffman Trust property in Butler Township March 28, thereby receiving the 101st permit to be issued in the county, according to agency data.
