Lupo Sentenced to Two Years in Federal Prison
Tuesday, August 05, 2014CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Ben Lupo, the owner of Youngstown-based D&L Energy, today was sentenced to more than two years in prison for violating the Clean Water Act. Lupo was convicted of dumping fracking waste into a tributary of the Mahoning River.
Lupo pleaded guilty earlier this year of one count of making an unpermitted discharge. Today U.S. District Judge Donald Nugent sentenced Lupo to 28 months in prison and fined him $25,000.
The dumping took place between Nov. 1, 2012 and Jan. 31, 2013, according to court documents.
Group Collects Signatures for 4th Vote on Fracking
Tuesday, August 05, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Youngstown Community Bill of Rights Committee says it has surpassed its goal of collecting enough signatures on petitions to add another fracking ban charter amendment to the November municipal ballot.
Members of the committee and supporters will hold a news conference today outside for the official announcement and to offer remarks before delivering the petitions to the Youngstown Clerk of Council.
ODNR Issues 20 More Permits for Southern Utica
Wednesday, July 30, 2014COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Ohio Department of Natural Resources issued 20 new permits for horizontal wells in the Utica shale last week – all in what is considered the southern tier of the oil and gas play.
Oklahoma City-based Gulfport Energy Corp. received six permits -- five for wells in Monroe County and one for a horizontal well in Guernsey County.
Eclipse Resources Inc., based in State College, Pa., was awarded five permits to drill in Guernsey County.
Westminster Gets Grant to Monitor Water Quality
Wednesday, July 30, 2014NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Colcom Foundation in Pittsburgh has awareded funding to Westminster College that will allow it to expand its participation in the Lawrence and Mercer County Alliance for Aquatic Resource Monitoring, the college announced Tuesday.
The grant will be used to buy more water quality monitoring equipment, to publicize the program, and outreach efforts to educate and recruit additional volunteers.
Amount of the grant was not disclosed.
