Gulfport’s Science Pays Off Big in Utica Shale
Saturday, December 15, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The CEO of Gulfport Energy Corp., Jim Palm, and a team of company geologists, engineers and scientists had a hunch – a calculated hunch.
Using data and a series of maps that showed the various depths, levels of organic carbon content, and thickness of the Utica shale in eastern Ohio, the team succeeded in creating a single composite through an overlay mapping technique they hoped would identify the most likely location to drill for natural-gas liquids.
Chesapeake Assets Sale Infuses Utica Investments
Thursday, December 13, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Chesapeake Energy Corp.'s sale of most of its midstream assets across the country is likely to infuse new investment in eastern Ohio's Utica shale -- bolstering a $900 million infrastructure project under way in southern Columbiana County, executives say.
Chesapeake announced late Tuesday it will sell a substantial majority of its midstream assets to Access Midstream Partners LP for $2.16 billion.
Hilcorp Gets New Permit for Lawrence County Well
Wednesday, December 12, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Houston-based Hilcorp Energy Corp. has been issued a permit to drill a horizontal well in Lawrence County, Pa., the company's second on the McConahy farm in Pulaski Township, Pa.
Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection records show the permit was issued to Hilcorp Dec. 3 as the company ramps up its presence in the western part of the commonwealth.
Tervita to Build Water Treatment Plant in Carroll
Friday, December 07, 2012HOUSTON -- Tervita Corp. says its will build a water treatment facility in Carroll County to treat the produced and tophole drilling water Chesapeake Energy uses in its Utica shale production in Ohio.
The environmental and energy services company announced the contract award Thursday, noting that it will enable Chesapeake to “efficiently continue its Aqua Renew program by recycling water used in its drilling operations.
