Lawrence County Lights Up Holiday Season Nov. 11
Thursday, November 04, 2004"NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- A spectacular evening of family fun will launch the holiday season Nov. 18 with live entertainment downtown followed by a tradition-rich parade, the illumination of downtown holiday and fireworks. Performances will take place in front of Eckerd Drugs, Butz Flowers, Sky Bank, and Washington Center, as well as along North Street. The entertainers will move from station to station, insuring that spectators can enjoy all of the scheduled performances without losing their parade viewing spots on the curbs.
Jillian's Divides Chain in Bankruptcy Auction
Thursday, November 04, 2004"BOARDMAN, Ohio -- The Jillian's entertainment nightclub in the Southern Park Mall is under new ownership today, the result of a $64.8 million bankruptcy court auction Sept. 22 in Louisville, Ky. The new owner is JBC Entertainment Inc. of Louisville, whose investors, Gemini Investors and Alpha Capital, acquired 19 of the 35 Jillian's clubs from Jillian's Entertainment Holdings Inc.The remaining 16 Jillian's clubs were sold to Dave & Buster's of Dallas.Jillian's filed for bankruptcy reorganization six months ago.
2004 Election Outcome: Money Wins

In 96% of House races and 91% of Senate races, the candidate who spent the most money won, according to a post-election analysis by the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics. The findings are based on figures reported Oct. 13 to the Federal Election Commission.The biggest spender was victorious in 413 of 432 decided House races and 31 of 34 decided Senate races.

Thursday, November 04, 2004"WASHINGTON -- Some 337,000 jobs were created in October -- the best gain in the last six months, the U.S. Labor Department's Bureau of Labor Statistics reported this morning.Construction employment rose sharply over the past month and several service-providing industries also added jobs, the government said. The union-sponsored event will take place Nov. 6 at Waddell Park in Niles and begin with a rally at 1 p.m.The RMI employees have been locked out of their jobs at the plant, a subsidiary of RTI International Metals, since Oct. 25, 2003."One year later, RTI management is still unfairly insisting on nearly $3 million in concessions from these hardworking, loyal employees," said Leo W. John Kerry. This late surge in advertising was led by two anti-Kerry or pro-Bush groups -- Swift Boat Vets and POWs for Truth and Progress for America Voter Fund -- which together spent $23 million.
Sales of Condos and Co-Ops Remain Strong
Thursday, November 04, 2004WASHINGTON -- Sales of existing condominiums and cooperatives held at the second highest pace on record during the third quarter, according to the National Association of Realtors. Existing condo and co-op sales slipped 2% to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 990,000 units in the third quarter from an upwardly revised record pace of 1.01 million units in the second quarter. Sales were 5.2% above the 941,000-unit level of sales activity in the third quarter of 2003. David Lereah, NAR's chief economist, said condo sales will easily set a record this year.

State tallies were still coming in, progressive voters were losing morale and headlines like these were the proverbial icing on the cake for many young organizers. In a San Jose Mercury News article released the following morning, "Youth Vote is Sign of Hope for the Future," journalist Sue Hutchison responded with anecdotal evidence.
