Ryan Reintroduces Bill for Heritage District Study
Thursday, January 27, 2005"WASHINGTON -- U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan of Niles has reintroduced legislation for a study that could result in establishing the Western Reserve Heritage Area, which would include Trumbull, Mahoning, Portage and Summit Counties and as many as 10 additional counties that were all part of the original Western Reserve territory. The bill, the Western Reserve Heritage Area Study Act, passed the House of Representatives, but the 108th Congress ended before getting Senate approval. KSU Adds Teaching English as Second Language as Major
Thursday, January 27, 2005"KENT, Ohio -- Teaching English as a second language has been added to the bachelor of arts degree program at Kent State University, trustees agreed at a Jan. 26 meeting. Trustees also established an audit committee to oversee university financial reporting and other financial activities and approved a new university policy regarding unlawful discrimination and harassment.

Steel Caucus Wants Import Monitoring Extended

Ted Strickland, D-Ohio 6th, are asking the incoming secretary of commerce, Carlos Guttierez, to make permanent the steel import monitoring system.The steel import monitoring system was implemented as part of President Bush's steel safeguard program. It helps the federal government and domestic steel industry to identify surges or spikes from certain trading partners that may try to illegally dump subsidized steel into the US market.
UCFC Reports 4th Quarter Earnings Rise to $7.2M

Tax Breaks Approved for InfoCision, Youngstown Pipe"
Thursday, January 27, 2005YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- City Council approved tax inducements for a teleservices company planning to move into offices downtown and a new steel service center that has started operations in the former United Foundry building.At last night's meeting, council approved a 75% tax abatement on real and personal property over 10 years for InfoCision, allowing the teleservices company to go forward with plans to renovate offices on the fourth floor of Phar-Mor Centre.The company is doing some aesthetic renovations in the building, reported Jeffrey Chagnot, the city's economic development director.
