Ohio Projects Get State Funding, Will Add Jobs"
Tuesday, February 01, 2005COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Ohio Tax Credit Authority has approved Job Creation Tax Credits for 14 companies -- some with ties to the Mahoning Valley -- that are involved in business location or expansion projects that are expected to create 916 jobs and retain 1,393, according to Gov. Bob Taft. Also, one company was approved for a $1 million state loan.Among the projects funded are:ms consultants, inc., Columbus, has been awarded a 60% tax credit for a five-year term to expand operations. The firm has offices in Youngstown.
Timken Nets $135.7 Million on Record Sales
Tuesday, February 01, 2005CANTON, Ohio -- 2004 net income at The Timken Co. was $135.7 million, or $1.49 per diluted share on record sales of $4.5 billion, officials announced earlier today. Sales were up 19% over 2003, when net income was $36.5 million, or 44 cents per diluted share."The strategic actions we have taken to improve our competitiveness enabled us to capitalize on the global industrial recovery and deliver improved performance," commented James W. Griffith, president and chief executive officer.

Tuesday, February 01, 2005Early involvement from a company's human resource experts in assessing the people challenges in a prospective merger, acquisition or other restructuring can significantly enhance the success of any subsequent deal, according to new research from Towers Perrin's HR Services business. The survey, which involved more than 200 companies in the U.S. and Canada, found that close to 80% of mergers and acquisitions completed in the last few years had substantially met key strategic objectives.

Youngstown OKs Lease Agreement for InfoCision
Monday, January 31, 2005"By Dan O'BrienYOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The city's Board of Control yesterday approved a lease agreement with InfoCision Management Corp. -- a deal officials say will serve as a model for future agreements aimed at luring additional tenants to the Phar-Mor Centre downtown.InfoCision, a teleservices company based in Akron, is in the process of renovating 10,000 square-feet of space on the fourth floor of the building that formerly the headquarters of the former Phar-Mor Inc. Drugstore chain.
