Trumbull Memorial Foundation Has $300K for Grants
Friday, August 15, 2014WARREN, Ohio -- The Trumbull Memorial Health Foundation, which has more than $300,000 to award in grants later this year, is looking for innovative programs that serve health needs of Trumbull County, Patrick K. Wilson announced Thursday.
Wilson is chairman of the board of the foundation.
The foundation is inviting requests for proposals as part of its ongoing effort to identify and provide funds to the best local initiatives that promote health services and/or health education.
Consumer Optimism Tracks Price of Gasoline at Pump
Friday, August 15, 2014ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- Just as quickly as consumer optimism rose in July, it fell in August, even though gasoline prices declined more than 15 cents a gallon over the past month, according to a survey conducted for the National Association of Convenience Stores. The survey found that 39% of consumers say they are optimistic about the economy, down from 46% in July.

YSU Degrees Reach 29-Year High

YSU awarded 2,147 degrees in the 2013-14 academic year. That’s the most since 1985-86, nearly three decades. YSU celebrates summer commencement Saturday in Beeghly Center.
Jack Fahey, vice president for student affairs, said the high number of graduates is a reflection of increasing enrollments that the university experienced in the first decade of the 2000s. But he pointed to two other factors.

Rex Buys Shell Positions in Marcellus, Utica Plays
Thursday, August 14, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Rex Energy Corp., a company reaping strong returns in the southern tier of the Utica shale, is now training its sites on the northern portion of the play.
The State College, Pa.-based company announced Tuesday that it is acquiring 208,000 leasehold acres from SWEPI LP, a subsidiary of Royal Dutch Shell, in a $120 million cash deal that includes positions in Mahoning and Columbiana counties.
The deal also calls for Rex to acquire SWEPI leaseholds in Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Lawrence, Mercer and Venango counties in Pennsylvania.
