Youngstown Union Official Named to IBEW Council
Tuesday, August 12, 2014BOARDMAN, Ohio -- Jim Burgham, business manager for International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 64 in Youngstown, was appointed to the eight-person IBEW International Executive Council, effective this month.
Burgham, of Poland, represents District 3, comprised of Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, Indiana and Michigan. He is the first local officer to hold this position.
Kmieć Inks 2-Year Contract With Ballet Western Reserve

Classes Begin Aug. 19 at New Utica Shale Academy
Tuesday, August 12, 2014SALINEVILLE, Ohio -- Classes begin Aug. 19 at the new Utica Shale Academy, regardless of whether the school meets the state's requirements for enrollment.
As of last Friday, the school had 22 students enrolled, three fewer than the minimum of 25 needed to keep the school, housed at Southern Local Junior/Senior High School here, open. If enrollment doesn't reach the threshold by Sept. 15, the school will close, says Chuck Kokiko, chief academic officer for the Jefferson County Educational Service Center.
But he doesn't see closing as a possibility.
Integrated Fab & Machine Gets $1.28M Loan to Expand
Tuesday, August 12, 2014MERCER, Pa. -- Penn-Northwest Development Corp. has been awarded a 15-year loan of $1.28 million at 2.25% by the Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority in behalf of Integrated Fabrication & Machine Inc., Sharpsville.
The company will use the proceeds to acquire and renovate a plant in Hempfield Township, Mercer County.
Scientists: Water in Upper Ohio Basin Remains Safe
Tuesday, August 12, 2014PITTSBURGH -- Drinking water in the Upper Ohio River basin is safe to drink, but it remains vital that the monitoring of runoff into the region’s rivers and creeks be continued.
That’s the conclusion of water quality experts from Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia who spoke Monday at the Convergence at the Confluence, a daylong conference hosted by the Three Rivers QUEST water-quality monitoring program. The event, funded by Colcom Foundation of Pittsburgh, was held at Duquesne University.
State OKs Roadwork Grant to Support Hynes Project
Tuesday, August 12, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The State Controlling Board voted Monday to approve a $43,000 roadwork development grant to the Mahoning County engineer’s office Monday for improvements to support Hynes Industries’ expansion.
The project includes the reconstruction of a two-lane, deteriorated roadway used at the main access road to the industrial park that connects North Meridian Road to Four Mile Run road.
Deadline Friday to Submit 25 Under 35 Nominations
Tuesday, August 12, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Mahoning Valley Young Professionals Club has issued its last call for nominations to its 25 Under 35 recognition program. Nominations are due Aug. 15, and 25 young professionals will be honored Feb. 5, 2015.
Young professionals will be honored for their professional accomplishments and community service.
Twenty-five honorees will be selected from all nominations received. All responses to questions on the official nomination form will be rated by an independent selection panel. The 25 nominees with the highest average rating will be recognized.

HandsOn Board Votes to Dissolve Organization

Chickonoski Joins Talmer Commercial Banking Team

Most recently, he was a vice president and senior business banking relationship manager with Chase Bank.
