"Feds Added 4,148 Rules in '03"
Tuesday, June 15, 2004"WASHINGTON -- While Washington rule makers made 19 fewer regulations in 2003 than they did in 2002, they still issued 4,148 new rules in the 71,269 page Federal Register. The cost of these rules can never be fully known and appear nowhere in the federal budget, said Clyde Wayne Crews Jr., vice president for policy at the Competitive Enterprise Institute, in a new Cato Institute report.

Survey Reveals Continued Optimism in U.S. Hiring
Tuesday, June 15, 2004MILWAUKEE -- U.S. employers continue to show optimism in their hiring plans moving into the third quarter, according to the latest Manpower Employment Outlook Survey, conducted quarterly by Manpower Inc.Of the 16,000 U.S. employers that were surveyed, 30% expect to add to their payrolls in the third quarter, while 6% predict a decline in staff levels. Of employers surveyed 59% foresee no change in job prospects, and 5% are unsure of their hiring expectations. Without seasonal adjustments, the third quarter outlook is slightly more positive than the April to June period.
Fed Approves Chase, Bank One Merger "
Tuesday, June 15, 2004NEW YORK -- The Federal Reserve Board announced yesterday it hasapproved the application filed by J. P. Morgan Chase & Co., New York, to merge with Bank One Corporation, Chicago. JP Morgan will acquire Bank One's subsidiary banks, as well, including its lead subsidiary bank, Bank One, National Association, also in Chicago.The merger, which will take place on July 1, makes J.P. Morgan the second largest insured depository organization in the United States, with total consolidated assets of $1.1 trillion. It will control 6.7% of deposits nationwide.After the merger the U.S.
Trumbull County Sees Sunshine
Tuesday, June 15, 2004WARREN, Ohio -- The rehabilitation of 20 homes by Sunshine of Warren/Trumbull Area, Inc. in Warren's near north side neighborhood is making progress. To date approximately 10 homes of the 20 have been completed or nearly finished and five homes are occupied. All are scheduled to be completed by the middle of September.
Study: Women Still Earn Less than Men
Tuesday, June 15, 2004WASHINGTON -- Women, in their prime earnings years, make only 38 cents for every dollar that men earn. In a new study, economists Dr. Heidi Hartmann of the Institute for Women's Policy Research and Dr. Stephen Rose of ORC Macro have teamed up to provide new estimates of the long-term gender earnings gap showing that women earn 62% less than men earn over a 15-year period. The typical prime age working woman earned only $273,592 between 1983 and 1998 while the typical working man earned $722,693 (in 1999 dollars).
Online Job Demand Climbs in May
Tuesday, June 15, 2004NEW YORK -- Demand for workers and related online job recruitment activity across the United States increased in May, according to the Monster Employment Index, marking a continued upward trend for the first five months of 2004.Most industries experienced moderate growth in job availability, with the largest increases occurring within the agriculture and forestry, accommodation and food services, finance and insurance, transportation and warehousing, and manufacturing industries.
