Giant Eagle LPGA Classic Will Be U.S. Qualifier for British Open
VIENNA, Ohio -- The Giant Eagle LPGA Classic, July 12-18, at Squaw Creek Country Club will serve as the U.S.-based qualifier for the LPGA Tour's final major of 2004 -- the Weetabix Women's British Open, July 29-Aug. 1, at Sunningdale Golf Club in Berkshire, England."We are pleased that the LPGA has included us in its plans for the 2004 Weetabix Women's British Open Qualifying," said Giant Eagle LPGA Classic executive director Eddie Thomas. "We are looking forward to hosting a great week of golf."LPGA members who are not exempt into the field and wish to participate in the U.S.-based qualifier must have submitted an entry form for the Weetabix Women's British Open by July 5. They must also have officially committed to play in the Giant Eagle LPGA Classic and have indicated their desire to participate in the qualifier in Vienna, Ohio, at the time of registration.The qualifier is for players who are not otherwise qualified for the Weetabix Women's British Open. The top five scores from the eligible players at the conclusion of the first 36 holes of play at the Giant Eagle LPGA Classic will determine the players who earn spots in the final major of the season.The five qualifiers from the U.S.-based qualifier will join the top 70 LPGA players from the 2004 ADT Official Money List after the conclusion of the U.S. Women's Open on July 4 and the top 35 Robe di Kappa Ladies European Tour players from the 2004 LET Order of Merit as of July 5 who are already exempt for the $1.6 million event."
