No Blast Furnaces but Steel Industry Still Strong
Monday, April 07, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The closing of RG Steel in Warren last year – the name was the last incarnation of the century-old Republic Steel Corp. plant on Pine Avenue -- was the last chapter of integrated steelmaking in the Mahoning Valley.
But it wasn’t the last chapter for the steel industry here. Service centers, fabricators, organized labor and producers remain optimistic about the future. They point to the growing demand in the auto, transportation, and energy sectors, and a projected rebound in construction activity this year.

Mahoning County Prepares to Auction South Side Annex
Monday, April 07, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – A Mahoning County official and the local auctioneer responsible for auctioning the county’s South Side Annex building are confident there will be bidders for the property, despite no interested parties showing up for a viewing of the property Friday.
Six prospective buyers have walked through the building, reported Jim Fortunato, county purchasing director. An earlier open house to permit individuals to inspect the property was held March 24. An auction of the property is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, with a final inspection one hour before its start.

Raphael's Gets State Energy Efficiency Loan

The low-interest loan from the Ohio Development Services Agency will allow Raphael’s to incorporate new light controls and use solar energy to power and heat water at its campus.
Ohio Insurance Industry to Need 26K Skilled Workers

Butech Builds Some of World's Largest Machines

“This plate originally came off a coil processing line on machines that we probably manufactured,” says Joing, manager at the Butech Bliss plant on South Ellsworth Avenue. “We use a lot of products that come from the equipment that we build.”
