Companies End Plans for Bluegrass Pipeline Project
Tuesday, April 29, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- A pipeline project intended to transport natural gas liquids from the Utica and Marcellus shale plays to processing centers in Louisiana has been suspended indefinitely, according to one of the partners in the venture.
The Bluegrass Pipeline, a partnership between Oklahoma-based Williams and Boardwalk Pipeline Partners LP, Houston, was to cross most of Columbiana County and a small portion of Mahoning County, sending natural gas liquids from this region to the Gulf Coast.
Women Encouraged to Pursue Oil, Gas Careers
Tuesday, April 29, 2014CANFIELD, Ohio -- Nancy Hanlan knew she wasn’t interested in the types of jobs traditionally open to women. Her local community college led her to the civil engineering program, which eventually led to her getting involved with the International Union of Operating Engineers.
That was 35 years ago.
“My parents were less than thrilled but I proved them wrong and they are very proud of me,” she remarked.
Speakers Decry Harm Charter Schools Cause
Tuesday, April 29, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Charter schools, no matter how well-intentioned, are not the solution to what ails public schools, four speakers agreed Monday night at a symposium co-sponsored by the League of Women Voters.
After the four speakers showed how charter schools have diverted, if not drained, resources from public school system in Ohio, especially Youngstown, the president of the Youngstown chapter of the league, Barbara Brothers, asked the audience to sign two petitions.

KSU to Observe 1970 Shooting of 4 Students

Because of the anticipated high demand, participants will be limited to three items.

Tressel Among 3 Finalists Named for YSU Presidency
Monday, April 28, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Former Youngstown State University Penguins and Ohio State Buckeyes football coach Jim Tressel is among three finalists for YSU's presidency, the university announced this afternoon.
Tressel is also a finalist for the presidency of the University of Akron, where he now serves as vice president of student success.
Also on the short list of candidates are Mary Cullinan, president and professor of English at Southern Oregon University, and Gary L. Miller, chancellor at the University of North Carolina, Wilmington, the university said.
