Downtown Nightclub Set to Open This Weekend
Friday, April 16, 2004YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- One year in the making, the downtown's newest nightclub, The Core, is set to open Saturday night.The Core, billed as an "upscale" dance club, is modeled after similar ventures in larger cities such as New York and Los Angeles, partner Bernard Marinelli said."This area doesn't really have an upscale club," Marinelli said. "We decided to go with something that's known more in larger metro areas."As such, the club will differ from the traditional tavern or bar, Marinelli added.
Industrial Production Slipped in March
Friday, April 16, 2004WASHINGTON -- Following two months of large gains, industrial production fell 0.2 percent in March, according to a new report issued by the Federal Reserve. At 114.5 percent of its 1997 average, output was 3.4 percent above its level in March 2003. For the first quarter as a whole, production rose at an annual rate of 6.6 percent, and in the fourth quarter of 2003, it increased at an upwardly revised annual rate of 5.6 percent. In March, manufacturing output was unchanged.
NEOTEC Becomes Host Site for Trade Assistance Center
Friday, April 16, 2004KENT, Ohio -- The Northeast Ohio Trade & Economic Consortium has announced the opening of a regional International Trade Assistance Center to offer export-counseling assistance to small businesses in Northeast Ohio. The ITAC office, which will be located within NEOTEC's offices on the Kent State University campus, was made possible through a grant awarded to NEOTEC by the U.S. Small Business Administration and the Ohio Department of Development's Small Business Development Center program.
Starbucks Offers to 'Perk' Up Your Garden
Friday, April 16, 2004SEATTLE -- As part of its annual effort to promote environmental awareness in stores, Starbucks invites customers to pick up a free bag of spent coffee grounds from any neighborhood Starbucks store through the year-round Grounds for Your Garden program. Starbucks stores package spent coffee grounds in recycled bags and offer them free of charge on a first-come, first served basis.The program, which began in 1995, offers complimentary coffee grounds every day of the year to customers for use in gardens and compost bins.
Study Links Lower Literacy With Greater Health Risk
Friday, April 16, 2004WASHINGTON -- The nation's estimated 90 million adults with lower-than-average reading skills are less likely than other Americans to get potentially life-saving screening tests such as mammograms and Pap smears, to get flu and pneumonia vaccines, and to take their children for well-child care visits, according to a new evidence report released recently by Carolyn M. Clancy, M.D., director of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.

Additionally, electronic filing increased by 12 points to 43%, according to independent research conducted by the Claria Corp. in conjunction with its Feedback Research division.Claria measured online user behavior of tax category Web sites and conducted a survey to their users regarding online and offline activity for the 2003 tax season. Of Claria's over 43 million active users, 2.8 million viewed tax-related Web sites between Feb.

Most Financial Executives Take Their Own Tax Advice

In a recent survey, 67% of chief financial officers said they submit their taxes in the first three months of the year. But not all respondents act quickly; one in four wait until April to file their returns.The survey was developed by Robert Half Management Resources, a provider of senior-level accounting and finance professionals on a project and interim basis.
