US Airways Express to Add Erie Regional Jet Service
Monday, June 07, 2004ARLINGTON, Va. -- US Airways Express will begin nonstop regional jet service between Erie, Pa., and both Charlotte, N.C., and Philadelphia, beginning Aug. 8. The new daily flights to both cities will be operated by US Airways Express carrier PSA Airlines using 50-seat Canadair Regional Jets.
WCI Steel Begins Blast Furnace Reline
Monday, June 07, 2004WARREN, Ohio -- The $15.3 million reline of WCI Steel Inc.'s blast furnace began on schedule Friday, with the furnace expected to come back on line July 17, officials announced this morning.The 42-day reline began with the blowdown of the furnace, followed by the removal of blowpipes and tuyeres.

House Passes GOP Bill to Create Job Training Accounts
Friday, June 04, 2004WASHINGTON -- The U.S. House of Representatives yesterday passed legislation by Rep. Jon Porter of Nevada, R-3, that would create personal reemployment accounts of up to $3,000 to help unemployed Americans purchase job training and other key services such as child care, transportation services, and housing assistance.The bill, the Worker Reemployment Accounts Act (H.R. 444), is strongly supported by the Bush administration. Consumers Resilient Despite Higher Gas Prices
Friday, June 04, 2004WASHINGTON -- Higher prices at the gasoline pump weren't enough to keep consumers away from the stores in May, according to the latest monthly index by the National Retail Federation. The trade group's retail sector performance index continued its strong showing in May with a reading of 59.6 points, up 12.1 points from a year ago and up 1.4 points from April (58.2). "It may cost more to drive to the stores, but consumers are still shopping," said Tracy Mullin, president and chief executive officer of the National Retail Federation.
Online Sales Skyrocket as Profitability Jumps
Friday, June 04, 2004WASHINGTON -- Online sales sped past the $100-billion mark in 2003, surpassing all industry expectations, according to the State of Retailing Online 7.0, an annual Shop.org study conducted by Forrester Research. 2003 online retail sales jumped 51% to $114 billion and represent 5.4% of all retail sales, the study found.While each online product category experienced strong growth in 2003, certain areas were particularly robust. Online travel sales were solid, increasing 91% to $52.4 billion.
