Steel Import Market Share Is 24% in January
Friday, March 01, 2013WASHINGTON -- Based on preliminary Census Bureau data, the United States imported a total of 2,579,000 net tons of steel in January. This includes 2,106,000 net tons of finished steel.
The total and finished steel figures are up 5% and 18%, respectively, from December 2012, according to the American Iron and Steel Institute.
Wean Foundation Makes First Grants in New Program

Jeffrey L. Glebocki, president of the Wean Foundation, announced the grants Thursday.
JA Invites Students to Compete in Titan Challenge

The JA Business Challenge is a competition for teams of two to three students to use their creativity and leadership ability to solve a business problem on the JA Titan program. There is no entry fee, says Michele Merkel, president of Junior Achievement of Mahoning Valley.
Federal Grand Jury Indicts Lupo, D&L Employee
Thursday, February 28, 2013CLEVELAND – The U.S. Attorney's Office announced Thursday that a federal grand jury returned an indictment against Ben Lupo, owner of D&L Energy and Hardrock Excavating, and an employee of Hardrock for violation of the Clean Water Act.
The U.S. Attorney's office filed a complaint in U.S. District Court in Youngstown Feb. 13, charging Lupo with violation of the federal law after it was discovered he ordered an employee to discharge tens of thousands of gallons of drilling wastewater into a storm drain that led to the Mahoning River.

Gulfport Focuses on Drilling Multiple Wells at Sites
Thursday, February 28, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Oklahoma City-based Gulfport Energy Corp. says that net production of oil and gas wells it’s drilled in eastern Ohio's Utica shale should surpass production in other regions of the country as the company homes in on what it believes to be the richest part of the play.
"By mid-April, our Utica assets are forecasted to be generating more net production than our other existing areas," said Michael Moore, senior vice president and chief financial officer, during a conference call with analysts Wednesday.
