Ohio Commerce Center on Track for More Growth
Tuesday, June 04, 2013LORDSTOWN, Ohio -- The Ohio Commerce Center, a sprawling, 500-acre site along state Route 45 in southern Trumbull County, is taking all steps necessary to prepare it for diversified growth and success, say its principals.
"Our goal is to bring jobs here," said George Bakeris, who along with his brother, Spiro, owns the Commerce Center.
On Monday, workers were busy in sections of the park as construction continues on a massive rail infrastructure upgrade that's already lured a new tenant, Savage Services.
Union Leader Says RG Sale Offers 'Glimmer' of Hope
Tuesday, June 04, 2013WARREN, Ohio – The president of United Steelworkers of America Local 1375 says the sale of RG Steel's Warren plant to Hilco Trading LLC (READ STORY) offers a "glimmer of hope" that a buyer could be found to operate the idled hot mill.
"It gives the plant a little more time to find a potential operator," said Darryl Parker. "And, it would give a reprieve to some of the unskilled workers."
Additive Manufacturing Dominates YSU Energy Forum

“Sustainable energy and additive manufacturing go together like peanut butter and jelly,” said Ed Morris, director of the National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Institute, who led off three speakers discussing additive during the forum’s morning session. The two-day forum concludes today.

College of Fine and Performing Arts Renamed
Tuesday, June 04, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The College of Fine and Performing Arts at Youngstown State University has a new name. The college, composed of the departments of art, communication, theater and dance and the Dana School of Music, is the College of Creative Arts and Communication.
“In essence, all of the disciplines in this college are about creativity and communication, so it is appropriate that the name of the college reflects that mission,” said YSU President Cynthia E. Anderson in a prepared statement.
Mahoning Valley Pizza Huts Partner with United Way

Employees Report Feeling Bullied in the Workplace
Tuesday, June 04, 2013CHICAGO -- Much has been published and broadcast about bullying in schools, but what about the workplace? It seems to be on the rise: 35% of workers surveyed by CareerBuilder say they've felt bullied at work, up from 27% last year.
In addition, 16% of those who say they've been bullied report suffering from health-related problems as a result, and 17% quit their jobs to escape the situation. But nearly half of workers don't confront their bullies and the majority of incidents go unreported.

Hilco Buys RG Steel Mill, Says Will Seek Operator
Monday, June 03, 2013WARREN, Ohio -- A Chicago area firm that specializes in marketing industrial properties has purchased RG Steel's Warren steel making assets, pledging it will do "everything possible" to find a buyer or operator for the shuttered hot mill.
Hilco Trading LLC of Northbrook, Ill. announced over the weekend that it has purchased the assets of RG Steel Warren through a newly formed entity, Hilco Warren LLC.
Chevy Cruze Sales Post Solid Gains in May
Monday, June 03, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Lordstown-built Chevrolet Cruze enjoyed a strong sales month in May, as General Motors Co. today reported total sales of 252,894 new cars and trucks, a 3.1% improvement over last year.
GM said it sold 23,055 Cruzes during the month, making it the second best-selling vehicle in the company's lineup. Cruze sales were up 17.5% compared to the same period last year, GM said.
The Chevrolet Silverado-C/K pickup, usually the strongest seller in GM's portfolio, sold 43,283 units in May.
