Monday, May 24, 2004WASHINGTON - Critics of American journalism will find much fodder in a new survey by The Pew Research Center for the People and the Press that concludes journalists also are unhappy with the way things are going in their profession these days. The survey, released Monday morning, finds most journalists give poor grades to the coverage offered by the types of media that serve most Americans: daily newspapers, local TV, network TV news and cable news outlets.

Currently in its initial phase, Business.gov will provide one-stop, online federal government information and services that businesses need and can access in one location."In today's fast-paced marketplace, small business owners don't have time to go to dozens of Web sites to find information they need to run their business," says SBA Administrator Hector V. First Place Gets Approval for Franklin Bancorp Merger

$1 Million for Youngstown Air Base in Defense Bill
Friday, May 21, 2004WASHINGTON -- U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan, D-17, Ohio, announced late Thursday that the fiscal year 2005 Defense Authorization Bill includes $954,000 to plan and design housing facilities for reservists at the Youngstown Air Reserve Station in Vienna Township.Ryan, a member of the House Armed Services Committee, says he worked with the committee's chairman, Duncan Hunter (R-Cal.) and its ranking member, Ike Skelton (D-Mo.) to get the funding included in the Defense Authorization Bill. The money would be used for the planning and design of a 131-room lodging facility for reservists.
UCFC Declares Second-Quarter Dividend
Friday, May 21, 2004YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- United Community Financial Corp, holding company for The Home Savings and Loan Co. and Butler Wick Corp., today declared a second quarter dividend of 7.5 cents per share. The dividend is payable June 15 to shareholders of record May 31.Since its birth nearly six years ago, UCFC, based in Youngstown, has returned to shareholders more than $81 million in dividends and stock appreciation, Douglas M. Friday, May 21, 2004CLEVELAND -- Women entrepreneurs have a 50% or greater stake in nearly half (48%) of all privately-held businesses in the United States and they generate approximately $2.3 trillion in sales and employ 19.1 million people nationwide, according to a survey from the Center for Women's Business Research and National City Corp. Ohio Minority Business Trade Fair Slated for Akron
Friday, May 21, 2004AKRON, Ohio -- The largest minority business trade fair in the state will be held June 7 to 9 at the John S. Knight Center here. The 2004 All Ohio Trade Fair Conference and Expo is hosted by the Ohio Assembly of Councils. Held in a different Ohio city each year, the trade fair is expected to draw more than 1,000 participants and attendees. The event was held in Columbus last year and in Cleveland in 2002."The All Ohio Trade Fair presents attendees with outstanding opportunities," said Wyatt Brownlee, executive director of the Northern Ohio Minority Business Council.
