YSU Enrollment Down Slightly, Grad Student Numbers Up
Friday, January 31, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Spring semester enrollment at Youngstown State University totals 12,823, a 1.1% decrease from a year ago. Meanwhile, graduate student numbers increased 2.8 percent, with 1,150 grad students enrolled, YSU reports.
Gary Swegan, YSU’s new associate vice president for enrollment planning, sees a positive side to the numbers.
McNally in No Rush to Build Arena Amphitheater

Ohio's Pending House Sales Index Up 1.5%
Friday, January 31, 2014COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The number of single-family houses and condominiums in Ohio put under agreement in December increased from the same month a year before, the Ohio Association of Realtors reports. The Pending Home Sales Index of 123.1 rose 1.5% from the December 2012 index score of 121.3.
A pending sale or a sale “under agreement” is the buyer and seller agreeing on terms of the sale of a house and signing a purchase and sale agreement but not closing their agreement.
Bakers Ready for ‘Cookie Table & Cocktails’ Feb. 8

Northside Hospital Nurses' Union Issues Statement

Thursday, January 30, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The administration of Northside Medical Center released a statement this morning regarding the collective bargaining agreement ratified yesterday by registered nurses who are represented by the Ohio Nurses Association.
The statement suggests that ValleyCare Health Systems of Ohio believes management came out the winner in the 18-month dispute, which included a one-day strike last year by nurses.
The nurses union has not issued a formal statement. Should one be released, it will be posted at BusinessJournalDaily.com.
Columbiana Chamber Announces Recipients of Annual Awards

Northside Nurses Approve 1-Year Labor Contract
Thursday, January 30, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Registered nurses at Northside Medical Center have a contract for the first time in 18 months, following a vote yesterday by members of their bargaining unit. The agreement ends a contentious dispute that erupted into a one-day strike and criticisms by the nurses of the for-profit corporation that owns the hospital.
