It's Official: Dunn Named Next President of SIU
Monday, February 17, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The board of trustees of Southern Illinois University voted unanimously shortly after 3 p.m. Eastern time today to appoint Randy J. Dunn the eighth president of the university. Dunn will be leaving Youngstown State University after serving as its president just seven months.
YSU's board of trustees is scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. today. "
Randal Thomas, chairman of the board of trustees of Southern Illinois University, called Dunn's selection "an important step in the continuation of the proud history of the SIU system."
Dunn Must Give 180 Days; Trustees Could Terminate
Monday, February 17, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Should the president of Youngstown State University, Randy J. Dunn, submit his resignation tonight to the school’s board of trustees, as is expected, his contract obligates Dunn to give a 180-day written notice.
Trustees can, however, vote to terminate Dunn should a majority of the board believe his departure after just seven months violates his contractual obligations to YSU.
Dunn ‘Top Candidate’ at Southern Illinois University
Monday, February 17, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Youngstown State University has confirmed that the topic of tonight's special meeting of its board of trustees is "presidential employment." The confirmation came in a two-sentence release notifying the press of the meeting.
It follows a report by the student newspaper at Southern Illinois University, the Daily Egyptian, that states YSU's president, Randy J. Dunn, is "the leading candidate" to become the eighth president of SIU (READ STORY).

Frackfree Gathers Enough Signatures for 3rd Vote
Monday, February 17, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Youngstown Community Bill of Rights Committee reports its members have surpassed their goal of collecting enough signatures on petitions to add a charter amendment to the May municipal ballot. The signatures will now go through the required legal processes to certify a ballot question, said committee spokeswoman Susie Beiersdorfer.
If certified, it would be the third time the group has placed up for vote a charter amendment that would ban hydraulic fracturing in the city of Youngstown.

Flynn’s has experienced tremendous growth over the past 10 years, reports general manager Shaun Fitzgerald, and if it is to provide the level of service to keep pace with its growth, the call center was needed.
Flambeau's Caribbean Has Grand Opening Tuesday
Monday, February 17, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Flambeau’s – which bills itself as the only restaurant in the Mahoning Valley to serve authentic Carribean cuisine -- will hold its grand opening at 11 a.m. Tuesday.
On hand to celebrate the opening of the restaurant, 3980 Hillman Way, says owner Josh Alphonse, will be Mayor John A. McNally IV, James Brown, head of Community First Partnerships and deejay Dr. Goo, who will play Carribean music.
Those who attend can sample items on the menu, Alphonse says.
