Rex Issued Its First Permit in Lawrence County, Pa.
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Rex Energy Inc. has been awarded a permit to drill its first horizontal well in Lawrence County, Pa.
Rex Energy, active in Carroll County in eastern Ohio, was awarded a permit to drill a horizontal well in Perry Township, Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection records say.
The well is to be drilled on the Hufnagel property; the permit was issued July 27.
The well would be the 20th non-Marcellus well since May for which the Pennsylvania DEP has issued a permit in Lawrence County. Shell Oil and Hillcorp Energy hold permits to drill at sites in Pulaski, Scott and North Beaver townships.
No additional permits were issued for sites in Mercer County. Carrizzo Oil and Gas, Houston, was awarded two permits to drill in West Salem Township in May.
Carroll County continues to be the focal point of aggressive oil and gas exploration in eastern Ohio portion of the Utica shale, the latest drilling permits issued by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources indicate.
ODNR issued 10 new drilling permits last week in Carroll County for Oklahoma City-based Chesapeake Exploration LLC. To date, 111 permits have been issued for sites in the county.
Four permits were let July 24 in Loudon Township, another issued for Fox Township July 26, two in Perry and one in Lee townships the same day, and another in Center Township July 27.
Columbiana County has the second-highest number with 52. No new permits were issued in Columbiana County last week.
Chesapeake also was awarded permits to drill a well in Pike Township of Stark County and two others in Harrison County, ODNR records show.
Carrizzo Oil and Gas, which has been active in western Pennsylvania and Trumbull County, was issued a permit to drill in Richland Township of Guernsey County, ODNR records show.
Mountaineer Keystone LLC received two permits to drill two horizontal wells in Windham Township in Portage County.
