Husted's Early-Voting Decision Riles Ohio Dems
Thursday, August 16, 2012COLUMBUS, Ohio – Secretary of State Jon Husted set statewide uniform hours for early voting Wednesday, taking the decision out of the hands of local boards of elections.
The decision followed controversy over decisions by Husted to break ties between Democrats and Republicans on county boards of elections, limiting early voting to regular office hours in counties that traditionally vote Democratic.

Monaca Cracker Plant Still 'Under Study,' Exec Cautions
Wednesday, August 15, 2012PITTSBURGH – Although a preferred site has been chosen, several hurdles are yet to be overcome before Royal Dutch Shell commits $2 billion toward construction of a new ethane "cracker" plant near Monaca, Pa., a company executive said Tuesday.
"The cracker plant is still under study," Paul Ayoub, manager of the Appalachia Petrochemical Complex project, told a large audience at the Energy Inc. conference at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. "More must happen before it can become a reality,” he said.
UCFC Earns $62,000 in its Second Quarter
Wednesday, August 15, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- United Community Financial Corp., holding company of The Home Savings and Loan Co. of Youngstown, Tuesday reported consolidated net income of $62,000 for the three months ended June 30.
UCFC also reported net income of $3.9 million, or 12 cents per diluted share, for the first half.

Mahoning, Trumbull to Consider Extended Voting Hours
Wednesday, August 15, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Mahoning County Board of Elections is expected to consider Monday whether to offer extended voting hours in the weeks leading up to the general election, and the Trumbull County board likely will take up the matter next month.
The boards' contemplations come under increased scrutiny, in the run-up to this year’s presidential election, due to recent controversy surrounding the extensions of hours in Republican counties of the state and shorter hours in areas that typically vote Democratic.

Airport Gets $780K Grant to Lure New Passenger Carrier
Wednesday, August 15, 2012VIENNA TOWNSHIP, Ohio – A $780,000 grant will provide funds that could help bring scheduled daily air service back to Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport, its aviation director said.
The Small Community Air Service Development Program grant, annoounced Tuesday by the office of U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, will be used to provide money for a revenue guarantee to help attract a daily carrier.
