Racing Commission, Penn National to Discuss Plans

Joe Schiavoni, D-33 Boardman, wants representatives of Penn National Gaming Inc. and the Ohio State Racing Commission to get together prior to a meeting scheduled for April 24 to discuss the debate over Penn National's proposed racinos in Austintown and Dayton. Those projects could be "in jeopardy" if the commission denies its plans, a Penn National official acknowledged in a letter to the commission's chairman.
Friends Roastery Plans Summer Opening Downtown

Friends Roastery plans to open in its second cafe in the 101 W. Federal St. building most recently occupied by William Leonard’s Extraordinary Gentlemen, its owners announced on their Facebook page Sunday.
Patricia Tinkler, who with her husband, Matt Lynch, owns Friends Roastery, said they have been looking for some time for a second location. “You can’t help but notice there seems to be a change in the downtown,” the North Side native remarked.

Bernier is director of flight operations at Winner Aviation.
Summer Concert Series Boosts Downtown Warren
Tuesday, April 16, 2013WARREN, Ohio -- Promoters of the River Rock at the Amp summer concert series say they are looking for ways to bring more downtown businesses into the act.
Ken Haidaris and Marty Cohen of Sunrise Entertainment, who four years ago took over the concert series from the late Walt English, announced the lineup at the site of the series, the Warren Community Amphitheater. The series of 11 concerts kicks off May 25 with the Led Zeppelin tribute band ZOSO and concludes Aug. 24 with Southside Johnny & the Asbury Jukes.
OSHA Slaps Hubbard Plant With Hefty Fine
Tuesday, April 16, 2013HUBBARD, Ohio -- Ball Aerosol and Specialty Container Inc.'s plant here has been cited 11 times and fined $589,000 by the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration for violations that exposed machine operators "to serious amputation hazards."
In a release issued yesterday, OSHA said that an inspection of Ball Aerosol's plant on Oct. 17, 2012, found that the company knowingly permitted workers to operate machines without proper guarding. The employer was cited for operating without guarding for the same equipment in 2009.

8,808 Entities File to Do Business in Ohio in March
Tuesday, April 16, 2013COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A total of 8,808 new entities filed to do business in Ohio in March. This number is down from March 2012, when 9,204 filed.
The office of the Ohio Secretary of State has helped with 23,965 new business filings to date this year, an increase from the first quarter of last year when there were 23,800 new business filings, according to Jon Husted, secretary of state.
