8,808 Entities File to Do Business in Ohio in March
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A total of 8,808 new entities filed to do business in Ohio in March. This number is down from March 2012, when 9,204 filed.
The office of the Ohio Secretary of State has helped with 23,965 new business filings to date this year, an increase from the first quarter of last year when there were 23,800 new business filings, according to Jon Husted, secretary of state.
New business filings are classified as forms that declare the formation of a business entity, encompassing for-profit, nonprofit and professional corporations, limited-liability corporations, partnerships, limited partnerships and limited- liability partnerships. Filing as a business in Ohio does not guarantee the company will begin operations, be profitable or create jobs.
While these numbers can’t provide a complete picture of Ohio’s jobs climate, they are an important indicator of economic activity, Husted says. His office is the first stop for individuals or companies who want to file and start a business in Ohio.
